I have a samsung drive ms28 with a lite-on burner, so I have no problem burning stuff and backing up images. However, my friend has a hitachi drive with some hitachi-lg burner (in his IBM). I don't know anything about hitachi drives. So my question is...

Can hitachi drives read non DVD-ROM back ups? I know samsung can.

360 version: v3.0 (falcon)
yes the latest hitachi (2.3S) fw has the mediapatch included, so no booktype needed.
It does not to have it.
