Sales of Xbox 360 in India: The Real Story
Posted by XanTium | February 26 00:19 EST

From gameguru.in:
[QUOTE]
Xbox 360, the only next-gen console to be launched in India. Yet it is still one of the most mysterious gaming devices in terms of the total numbers sold. There were many reports on international gaming websites such as Kotaku, Joystiq and Gamasutra regarding the Indian chapter of the Xbox 360. So we decided to investigate the real story behind the Xbox 360 in India and opted to do a telephonic survey. We went to the Xbox website and found out the names and the numbers of the dealers who were selling the Xbox 360 in India. The stats were quite fascinating as we found that the premium version was doing much better than the core version.

Sales figures on Xbox 360 in India (from 123 dealers out of 509 official delears):
* Total Xbox 360 sold: 839 (458 premium, 235 Core, rest unknown)
* Total Xbox 360 Game CDs sold: 1359

What we can make out is, that compared to the global figures, Xbox 360 is not doing that well in India. But the ones who will be happy to hear this are Sony, as Sony PS2 has become a rage over here. But on the flip side, if Indian customers find the Xbox 360 expensive, they will definitely find the PS3 steep too.

Doesn't surprise me. Game play > graphics! Especially when you pay 1/4 the price of the newest system.

I dont see the point either. The per capita GDP of india is only $3700 as compared to say per capita GDP of US at $43500.
that tells you that the number of people who can actually afford the XBOX 360 at $400 is miniscule compared to say the US. why bother anyway they are too poor to buy one as a country.

Those who have money and really want to buy a XBOX360 must have bought theirs in gray market. So this is official number only, not to totall count.

360 has not been released in China yet, but there are quite a few 360 forums with a lot of active members. Same thing should happens in India.

thats a good point. but the survey isn't to all dealers, and not all reported their numbers correctly. so technically speaking, you cant really draw any assumptions about what it says

This doesn't surprise me one bit. It's just too expensive.

While the Core is aimed at markets like India, it is too expensive, though maybe in a couple years it will be more attractive, but I doubt it, the Core sucks, people want the Premium.

Games like this should help slightly:

If people in the States are finding this generation of consoles expensive, countrys that have low income and have to pay close to the equivalent of $1,000 USD, have really got it bad. huh.gif
