(N-America) Official Feb 07 Numbers: 228k 360s - total 5.1m
Posted by XanTium | March 15 21:55 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
The NPD U.S. game hardware and software totals for February 2007 are in, and console software sales are $441 million, up 28% compared to last year's $345 million. Game hardware sales, meanwhile, were up an impressive 98% to $402 million, thanks to stellar performances from Nintendo's DS and Wii hardware.

Dealing with software first, the top-selling title for the month was the Microsoft-published Crackdown for Xbox 360, which shifted an impressive 427,000 units, no doubt helped by a bundled Halo 3 beta opportunity.

Turning to hardware, the DS headed overall hardware sell-through with an impressive 485,000 units, followed by Nintendo's Wii, which sold 335,000 units despite continued issues with shortages. The Xbox 360 sold through a reasonable, if not spectacular 228,000 copies, and the PlayStation 3 slumped to a disappointing 127,000 units, despite no apparent shortages.
Elsewhere, the PlayStation 2 moved a still impressive 295,000 at its relatively cheap current price.

In addition, the Wedbush Morgan report revealed that, through February 2007, U.S. cumulative hardware sales for Xbox 360 were 5.1 million units, Wii 1.9 million units, and PS3 1.1 million units.

Good news for the 360's war against the PS3...but I think the slump in sales indicates that it's well over due for a good official price cut.

I would think PS3 would have to cut prices to compete to non-hardcore gamers. If they do, the 360 will follow suit. I don't know anyone who's bought a ps3 yet, citing the outrageous price, although I work with a lot of non-gamers. Most of them are interested in streaming multimedia.

And so begins the rapid downfall of the PS3. It was a good run Sony, but its time to take the route of Sega, and gracefully bow out of the Console market before you embarass yourselves. And yeah the 360 would be trouncing the Wii if it didn't already have a massive installed user base and is still at launch prices. And yes, when Microsoft makes a handheld, it will win there as well. If it ran CE... well the game would be very VERY over for the competition. Homie G wins again!

Because they want to win the mass market and because the system is still at it's launch price. They are beating the PS3 but not winning. They have come in second for the last 2 months.

There's a mistake with one of the paragraphs. It should read:

This is surely good news for xbox and wii. I am certainly no fan of Sony after there numerous force onto the consumer. But the ps2 is still selling quite well and an xbox 360 price cut would put the nail in the coffin and surely give the wii a run for its money. Still have yet to see if the loyal playstation players will stick too.

Hello Fellow Gamers. They might've come in 2nd in the last 2 months, but where has the PS3 been in the last 1.5 yrs? answer 0 sales in 1.5 yrs. X360 sales = 11+ million & is still increasing. The PS3 is still in 4th place, with the ps2 comming in 3rd. The X360 still has the highest attatch rate per console sale. Now that we know that exclusives are going the way of the dinosaur (very few exclusives), we know that the X360 games will always have better features than the PS3 or Wii version.

Nintendo is the only winner with this news.
#1 and #2 spots held by DS and Wii which have both been strugling with shortages. Total market share of of 54% means everyone else is fighting for the scraps. Not to mention, Nintendo profits on each console sale where as the other guys take a loss in hopes of making it up in game sales. If nintendo can meet demand they will be unstopable. And think about it, Nintendo has yet to even launch games like Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, etc. which a lot of people are waiting for.

#3 is still held by PS2. Decent news for sony, bad news for MS.

#4 for the 360 is good that they are beating the PS3, but if they keep this spot they will loose ground to nintendo real fast. If this continues much longer, The Wii will have a higher install base than the 360 by the end of the year.

#5 for the PS3 is not good at all considering they can be found just about anywhere. People are just avoiding this console.
