I agrea it does sound a little bit strange. To pay an extra 80 for a black unit.

But it almost sounds fiesable that they could switch to a 120gb hd and a HDMI plug in the near future.

"Elite" is the best name they could come up with? They should just drop the Core sku altogether and rename the Premium to Core and Elite to Premium. Keep the 300/400 dollar figures intact for the new sku's. They've reduced manufacturing costs by now surely... Well that's what I would've done at least.

I don't need HDMI atm, but I'm sure down the line a couple of years from now I will be wishing mine had the feature.

Black with green lights... Blue LED's would have been bad ass... and they easily could have done that without sacrificing their green circle of light motto because this is a limited run.

The only things I truly feel the need for is the following:
-65nm (cooler, extended life-span)
-BenQ drive (whisper quiet, these should be in ALL 360's imo)
-120gb HDD


Then again I do have a two year warranty from Fry's. And I do believe the fan in the back is going out... It makes horrible screeching noises. Maybe when I get to exchanging it I could trade it in for the Elite + 80 bucks. I'd definitely wait for the white version though.

EDIT: Good God will people stop the "April Fools!" bullshit. No business in their right mind would do something to piss off thousands of customers... In this case a magazine lying to its subscribers. If that were the case I'd, for one, choose not to renew and waste my time reading outright lies. So please people stop saying every bit of news this month is an April Fools joke. Businesses do not do that. Simple as that.

they should go all out and add an internal HD DVD rom with the new so-called "Elite" unit. Whats the point of having HD output built into the machine if there is no HD input built in the machine. I think it's a poor excuse for M$ to make and extra buck, if the rumor is even true at all.

Looks like Photoshop to me. The Ring of Light all lit looks kinda flaky and also notice the DVD tray. The right side is a bit cut off and not round like the real Xbox360. Oh well maybe they didn't have real footage so they put in some sort of Photoshopped picture. Who knows...

The point is, you would use the HDMI out together with the HD-DVD add-on, which is currently not possible. MS has repeatedly confirmed there will not be a 360 with built-in HD-DVD.

It could be april fools, but then again it might be legit - if it is, I really hope the "non-elite" white HDMI boxes won't have the $80 price hike - if the white ones do increase in price, it'll be the first videogame console price hike in history (if you don't count the PS3 in Canada)
