Microsoft's Kim: Sony 'Helped Us With Their Own Missteps'
Posted by XanTium | March 20 19:36 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
Talking to Gamasutra as part of an in-depth interview to be published tomorrow, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Shane Kim has spoken on Xbox 360's current PR advantage, suggesting that "Sony has helped us with their own missteps", and praising Nintendo's "strong" Wii launch.

Specifically, when asked whether the current 'backlash' against the PlayStation 3, especially in Europe, is helping Xbox 360 sales, Kim replied: "I feel more confident about our competitive position today than when we launched the program. We've already got ten million units out there, we've got six million members on Xbox Live, we will have 320 Xbox 360 games available for customers by the end of this year."

He continued: "We're the leading game development platform, and I think we have the best exclusive content. Certainly I feel like we're executing our strategy, and it's running on all cylinders. Sony has helped us with their own missteps, and I'd be foolish not to say that it's not helping us. That's fine. I feel better about our competitive position than when we launched the platform."

it's still a shit load of games.

i mean ther must be about 150 retail games ATM.

i mean i own 22 360 titles and i have traded in maybe another 15. and i don't even own any sports titles.

and with arcade titles by the end of this year there will be about 100 of them (based on an average of one per week)

not bad for a 2 year old console id say.

I think the fact of Sony's weak sales is going to kill their exclusive titles. I'd bet that's why Devil May Cry is coming to Xbox. Even if Capcom was to sell the game to 3/4s of the user base that's not half of 360's. 100% isn't even half of Nintendo's! I'd like to think Nintendo might be able to steal some exclusives away from Sony too. It doesn't seem probable with the image of the system.
All in all Sony's price tag is only benefiting it's competitors.

"missteps" is quite an understatement.

MS has to be excited - especially with the popularity and unparalleled experience of Xbox Live and continuing to swallow other previous "exclusive" titles. Also, an impressively selling Wii has helped as well.

Things look really good now and H3 is still months away...

By those numbers they will definitely be reaching 320 games by the end of the year, possibly more.

I think the amount of games is probably the biggest selling point for MS right now. That and exclusives.

This is what people were trying to tell potential buyers before the release of the 360 and PS3. Developers jumping ship and joining up with MS because Sony does not know how to please game developers. We all know games is what makes or breaks a console, and MS addressed the issue while Sony played it off as no big deal.
