First of all I would like to upgrade my HDD, run emulators, Xbox games from the HDD, watch movies, and other cool things I may have missed. Will a SoftMod be able to do this and what limitations are there in a softmod that are not there for a modchip?
Also what hard drive do you guys reccomend I would like to at least have 500GB for all of my movies/games. I would like it to be "lockable" whatever that means so I can go onto Xbox Live. Can I use UnleashX and XBMC at the same time? Can UnleashX play movies as well as XBMC? Does the dashboard really matter all that much? What drive brand Link to pictures should I look for in my used Xbox so that I know the drive shouldn't fail on me for a while. Can the Platinum version of Splinter Cell do a softmod? Thank you very much and yes I know that these questions are very basic. I have been looking into this stuff for a long time but would appreciate some confirmation. |

Regarding the HDD size I have always used the Maxtor or Seagate drives with no issue. Try this link http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list for HDD's successfully used with Xbox's. also I have a 300GB and am going to a 500GB it is possible... |

i have a 250GB and got it for $80 after MIR from tigerdirect.com. try newegg as well. 250 hold plenty for me because i only use it for games. even though emulators and other things shouldnt take up much space.
the size is a personal preference and personal use. games are anywhere from ~2 to ~7 GBs. |

I just picked up a 160GB hard drive for $45.51 and that included shipping! You can also do a search for White Label hard drives. I've used these a lot in the past with ZERO problems. Should work fine. Seagate generally makes lockable hard drives, this one ought to work with no issues.

For softmods the only catch is it has to be lockable. Whereas chips don give a shit either way, don't even need to lock them.

I suggest for your own sake to search and read before asking questions. Im sure someone can help you get it modded but then what did you learn. More importantly, what happens when it fucks up? Its best to know what you are doing.

Its best to know what you are doing. Yea I'm trying to learn I've been looking for about 2 weeks and I think I know most of the stuff (except what all of the software is used for) I mostly just want to confirm what I think. And ask what all the software is used for since there doesn't seem to be any site that hosts most of the files and explains what each one does. |
