So that's how they'll do the optical thing. I guess it's good for all the folks who don't have HDMI audio receivers, but have HDTV's that have HDMI ports that are waiting to be used.

I wont deny that I'm bitter about this.

I'll say this:
I LOVE MY XBOX 360.....
I LOVED IT BETTER WHEN IT WORKED..

I went through 3 xbox 360s during my warranty. I am now left with a machine that is a big paper weight. I wonder if these are going to be plagued with the same issues as the previous 360s.

Im even more annoyed that I didn't get to use my xbox live for at least 4 months. It expires April 1st. Xbox is going to lose out on money this time.

If I get it for xmas or birthday gift.. cool

if not.. I'm done with this machine.

120GB HDD - could come in handy, i have <1gb remaining, especially when homebrew surfaces
its black, thats just cool, although the should have made the grilles white sad.gif

by not adding HD DVD to the machine it kind of hurts the HD DVD movement.

I understand why they didn't... its a huge risk if the Blue Ray wins..

BUT.. Blue Ray has ONLY been doing better since they had the PS3 to support them..

(lets face it PS3 games have kind of sucked... and until a killer ap comes out.. its better used as a blue ray player)

IF the xbox elite had the hd... that could help change things

HUGE problem though...

the elite + hd dvd add on = more expensive than ps3

but no ones forcing you to buy it, thats what bothers me, being forced to buy something i dont want.

also you get free cables, a headset and an extra 60 gigs of storage. Seems even to me.

Oh good, as I mentioned in the other thread, I was worried about the audio output.

Do we know if this is HDMI 1.3 by the way?

It doesn't really matter if it isn't IF the 360 will be able to decode the HD audio tracks and output them as LPCM.

Another reason why HDMI is a good thing love.gif

It's looking like Blu-ray is going to be the winner-because of Sony's big PS3-blu-ray gamble: The only videogame system whose main purpose is to push a media format.
I did have an add-on back when I had my 360, but with the way the market is looking now, I don't think I'll buy another add-on once I have a 360 again.

HDMI 1.3 also allows for higher bit color depths, which probably won't be an issue for 360 games, but might be for those with the HD-DVD drive.

Personally, I'm hoping for a PC sound card that will output the uncompressed 7.1 PCM audio over HDMI, thats the biggest potential use for it I would love to see, so that I can play games in surround with a digital cable without re-encoding the sound, and that it would be entirely future-proof, anytime a new codec came out, the PC can have the correct filter installed, and then output the PCM digitally to the receiver. (Of course, my current receiver doesn't have HDMI anyway, but eventually I'll have one that does.)
