Elite won’t kill Core, says Microsoft
Posted by XanTium | March 28 11:58 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From 360-gamer.com:
[QUOTE]
Following recent speculation from the German retail sector, it seemed that Microsoft would be using the arrival of the Elite pack to quietly drop the Core model of the 360. However, when we spoke to Microsoft today the company denied that it harboured any such intentions, stating that it would continue to offer its entry level model alongside the hard drive equipped Premium and Elite versions.

Is this like when they said the HDMI 360s were "just an experiment"?

We all no the truth when they denie and say no it really means "Yes". Is there a large failure rate of 360 "No" I'm so getting tired of M$. Lately I'm starting to favour Nintendo & Sony. I think I'm losing faith in this company. M$ are not even trying to get this system stable enough to last 12 months, what a complete joke one HDMI port 120 gig and still get a unreliable system. I know so many people that are pissed off with the machine not reading disks and having sent back just to be let down again.

The little wii and the PS3 will be kicking your ass by next year if you dont listen to your customers.

Get rid of the bastard child core system already (devs need to be able to rely on HDD as standard), and drop the premium to $350...and price the elite at $450.

doubt they'll be able to let dev's rely on hdd as standard, think about it, what about all of the core owners who don't have a hdd. don't get me wrong, it would be nice if dev's could rely on a hdd as a standard, but because MS decided to release the core, they kinda shot theirselves in the foot once again w/ this console.

everyone whined and complained that the 360 had no HDMI now it will and your panties are still in a wad, everyone cry's because they cant dl and more HD content cause their hdd is filled now its available larger and still complaints.....go get a ps3 let it collect dust and come crawling back to the 360 this summer when the library of games grows even larger jester.gif

call me an m$ fanboy, i havent even bought a 360 yet i only play halo2 on my xbox 1 and xbmc of course...the only thing i touch my freinds 360's for right now is crackdown and XBLA

absolutely no chance of this happening...

it has already been stated elsewhere that the core will continue to be produced and will include the HDMI port and probably the 65nm chips this fall.

they have no need to kill the core as it continues to make a profit for them...

MS has done a good job protecting the strong market demand for the 360 and its continued development with the slow release of information as the 360 evolves. And for all those whining, you don't understand economics, product development, nor supply/demand enough.

Why? The Core is selling? Why would they intentionally choose to stop selling to that market?

Even if they got rid of the core, the devs would never just assume people have hard drives. Too many (millions) of people out there already without hard drives... Furthermore, why. I mean, it would be great for games to utilize the hdd more, but the games already run better than a PS3 so they really don't need to force the use of hdd....

I think the Core is like £199 here in the UK, there keeping it for the low price point, looks good in TV advertising.

nothing wrong with options. if someone wants to buy a core, its cool they have that option. of course, we all know they will eventually be buying the hdd and then they will want to try out the wireless controllers. hey..more money for M$.
the elite looks nice, but not everyone has use for the hdmi right now. i have a hd tv that goes to 1080i. so the component cables are just fine for me. i dont plan on buying a newer tv with hdmi for at least a couple of years.
as far as a black case...big deal. its not hard to paint the case, or even buy a black replacement case. and for that 120gb hdd it comes with, i personally have no use for it. i dont really bother with xbox live arcade or even demos. i certainly dont buy microsoft points for downloading movies or tv shows. i like game trailors, but i just delete them when the game finally comes out. point is, i dont have use for a larger hdd right now. i know thats just me, but hey. i wont get the elite only because my premium is flashed and running just fine. never had a problem with it.
besides, hopefully soon there will be a mod or hack of some sort to allow us to get our own hdds for the 360, just as most of us have done for the modded xbox.

M$ needs to improve what they have, before releasing a different and more expensive one. example would be more video formatts support. (divx, mpg, etc). i also think it would be cool to have the option to use our own pics for the blades backgrounds.

My opinion- just drop the core. Lower the price of the premium, lower the price of the Elite.

Why my opinion is not economically logical- M$ would have to stop the production of HDDs. The HDDs bring in A LOT of profit. The number of memory cards sold would decrease. The number of wireless controllers sold would probably decrease by a slight amount...Im sure there are some more reasons to why dropping the core wouldn't work out.
