More Details about Migration of Data from 20GB to 120GB HDD
Posted by XanTium | March 28 13:55 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From wired.com:
[QUOTE]
In announcing the Japanese launch of the 120 GB Xbox 360 hard drive, a Microsoft Japan press release revealed some additional information about migration of content: most notably, that the data from two 20 GB drives cannot be combined onto one 120 GB drive.

I've translated the pertinent part of the press release:
* You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.
* Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.
* Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.
* You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored.
* Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk.

I haven't seen any information saying we can use the 120 gig HD with our premium and core machines. Surely we can, right? blink.gif

wow - there could not possibly be more restrictions placed on your hard drive content. so only a one-way transfer with automatic deletion of content on both drives...sounds like the old messages that would "self-destruct."

hopefully, there will be some 3rd party products to make transferring data easier and less destructive...

Yes you can use the 120gb with any system, you can buy it separately...it will sell separately for $179.99 and once you transfer any data from your 20gb hdd it will erase any data on the hdd but then if you have a second xbox without a hdd you can use that newly formatted hdd with it

What's everyone griping about? I only have one 20gb, and I am sure many, if not MOST consumers still only have one drive. Like an earlier poster said, i am sure there will be 3rd party or homebrew software for transfering data soon enough.
Until then, just swap drives if you want to use that data from your second drive.

if you have xsata you can simply backup the 20 gig hdd then transfer it to the 120 gig then restore it back to the 20 gig

Why not just do all of the transferring with your computer, and have it do exactly what you want? I guess this cable is for the average person who just wants to migrate though, so whatever...
