Posted by XanTium | April 2 23:40 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From xbox.com:
If, for any reason, you have a damaged Microsoft Xbox 360 disc and like to replace it, please review the information below:

THIS PROGRAM IS GOOD ONLY FOR XBOX 360 CONSOLE OWNERS IN COUNTRIES WHERE XBOX 360 IS SOLD AT AUTHORIZED RETAIL LOCATIONS.

This program only applies to games where Microsoft is the publisher, and is subject to availability. To check and see if your game is available for replacement, please review which Microsoft products currently fall under this program here. Link to Game List Page

You will need to print and complete the program form.
Once the products have been received by Microsoft, please allow four to six weeks for delivery.

The following game titles are currently available for this program:
Crackdown, Fuzion Frenzy 2, Gears Of War, Halo 2, Kameo: Elements of Power, Ninety Nine Nights, Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Viva Piñata, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1
Note that they'll still ask you 20USD/15EUR/10GBP to replace the disc.

How generous....only $20 to replace a game that costs <$5 to make, and $3 to ship. Still making profit on replacements. What a crock.

m_hael talked about this before. You buy a license to a product, if the disk with the information on it is scratched or broken under normal conditions(scratched or cracking from drive) they are obligated to replace said disc.

or make backups if you don't want to go through with the trouble

$5 dollars to make? More like 50¢

Oh.. Microsoft, what a machine. The turn a blatant engineering flaw into profits. I supposed what will be next is a 360 tradeout program for 65nm CPU units... for a handsome fee. Hopefully they figure out that it is not actually the CPU that is the problem or they may be offering us another horrible deal on another tradeout program when they actually address the GPU BGA issues.

I find it funny that the Treasure will refund you any mutilated bill without further question when you submit over 50% of the bill, and yet you must submit over 90% of the disc and pay 20 bucks to Microsoft for them to replace a damaged disc...

I need to take better care of my games than of my $100.00 bills biggrin.gif

Maybe they're doing this to have more of a legal stand against backups. Ie, "why would someone legally need a backup if we have a replacement program?'

Here in the netherlands a consumer program (called radar) proved that there was something wrong with the drive in the 360.

It seems that normally there are 4 "cushions" (rubber) around the laser in a seperate dvddrive (the same ones as in the 360).

However the ones in the 360 didnt have those cushion around the laser so........what do you get scratches biggrin.gif

They even "painted" a dvd black and guess what ?? afterwards the laser did have black markings from the dvd.

And for those people that are talking about " Dont Move The Console" STFU ...there were about 200 people in the studio who didnt move the goddamn thing.

They even filed a lawsuit and microsoft agreed to some faults (so probably setting the standard for other countries)

I bought a couple games at EB, for $3 they have a disc replacement program. I thought that was pretty reasonable.

lol did you guys read the

QUOTE
No replacement will be made if less than 90% of the damaged disc is enclosed.
In the terms and conditions.

WTF. Even if we gave M$ say 80% of our disk somehow what good would it do the consumer. It’s not even a decent coaster. I do get the idea that this prevents people from cutting disks in half and sending the 2 halves in for 2 disks but why not just require an entire game? Is M$ going to weigh the games? How stupid. If M$ were smart they would require the entire game. Consumers could cut of 10% of the game and so forth from other games or the same game and glue it together and eventually get there 10th replacement game free!

Someone should cut up there NON WORKING disk in like 10 parts and superglue 9 of the parts back together as a joke and send it in. Or cut off 10%. (It’s still 90% of the game eh?) Or melt of 10% of the game. That would crack me up. They call you up:

MS: sir how did your game melt?

360 Consumer: Err… The Xbox 360 overheated and precisely 10% of the game melted in the DVD drive as a direct result.

MS: how do you explain the holes in your disk that appear to be drilled?

360 Consumer: You gave me a Hitachi DVD drive in my 360 and the laser was so strong it burnt holes through my games. Clearly you’re at fault.
