GamerScore Podcast: Microsoft Leaks and Product Code Names
Posted by XanTium | April 6 01:02 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamerscoreblog.com (FYI: Microsoft owned blog):
This episode talks about how companies deal with leaks, why they are good - or bad, and gives you a behind-the-scenes look at some product code-names. This is also the first time we've had multiple end-of-show easter eggs.
Here's what Window's PR manager Michael Wolf said about the Xbox360 Elite leaks:
"For the Elite, for example, people were talking about the functionality and had pictures and all this stuff, but they didn't have the full story. They didn't know the price, they didn't know the accessories, they didn't know additional information that really puts a lot of context and a lot of information behind it,"

"The reason why it's bad is because then you lose all the context. You lose all the facts that back it up, so that people hear the story once, understand it, and move forward, as opposed to hearing things bit by bit, piece by piece."
Well, I would suspect that Microsoft would not like leaks. If they wanted the information public they would say it. Leaks make it fun though, I always enjoy learning about stuff before it comes out or playing with betas of software.

They've moved "forward" because the elite is simply bigger hd, black case and hdmi. Two out of 3 should have come standard to start with minus the bigger hard drive, and they expect everyone to jump for joy.. Save your money, paint your case, use a few "tools" and use your own hd. And as for hdmi its not all its cracked up to be...

Sick of this company and their business standards.
- We'll make a defective games console, then make you pay for it to get fixed.
- Tell you to buy two hard-drives then realise a 120gig and tell you sorry, you'll only be able to copy from 1

they have us all right where they want us. the big companies. they produce crap and we drink it up. kinda like 90% of us shopping at walmart. we all bitch about the service while we are driving back to buy more stuff from their shelves. they can get away with it... deal with it or dont buy it, thats the only way we can win. if you can convince the masses. but we are addicted to the games - good luck.... sleeping.gif

Leaks are a good thing. I remember when people posted the ourcolony movie. Its how I found out alot of the specs of the 360. I still dont care to much for hdmi. Apparently there is going to be a new standard soon from vesa.

I think companies intentionally stagger the release of their product so they can come out with an upgraded product soon after making people flock to the shelves to pick up this "better" product. It all makes sense.

However the bitching about this needs to stop. No one forced you to buy a 360 and no one is forcing you to buy this new limited edition xbox. Of course the price is higher, its LIMITED! Wait until that promotion ends and the 65nm 120GB HDMI White Premium 360 comes out at 400 bucks. Then you can bitch but by that time it won't matter anymore.

You don't bitch at Intel when you bought their Dual Core 64bit cpu from owning a P4 Hyperthreading cpu and you notice these new Core 2 Duos don't have HT but you think oh well no HT and slower clock speed but it doesnt matter as it has 2 cores. Then all the sudden the new standard is 4 cores w/ HT and you're like "shit"...

IMO - I dont think M$ is being honset with us about this topic whatsoever.

almost every new product from a major company, be it a gaming console or not, has to have public intrest before its release to insure the product will sell at all.

commercials !!!!!

its the timing of the release of info that is really the key thing here.

M$ is no different than any other major company in this respect.

they leak info to the public if they think it will help the company sell more.

but, if it will hurt sales, like the elite in this case, they shut their mouths.

i remember someone posting about having a conversation with an M$ employee about a possible adapter from component to hdmi and getting a response that would make one think they will make one.

a customer service employee whos word are guided by the opinions of M$

ever work in a retail atmosphere?

i have. and i was trained on how to properly speak to customers to encourage sales

in the hdmi/component adapter case, the employee was trying to keep customer confidence,

through outright bullsh@# !!!!!!!!!!

selling products is a mind game in itself, and you better believe M$ got to where it is because of how good they play that game.

they leak just like everyone else.

I would think that any company would like leaks, whether fact or fiction, about upcoming products as it creates free buzz and anticipation about the product.
