So here is my situation...

I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket (note that as Canadian money) and I've just also sold my Wii (yawn). I've really been eyeing the Xbox 360 for it's online play, as well as all other aspects and am curious about one thing, being the impatient man that I am.

Should I just go and grab the premium package right now and get setup to play right away, or wait until the 29th.

I'm keeping in mind that my TV will only go to 1080i, but the thought of having it through HDMI still seems nice. Basically, I'm stuck on the idea of waiting and wondering if it is something I should be doing.

If the prices of the other Xbox 360's will drop when the Elite comes out, I might as well wait in any case, right?

I think at this point it'd be best to wait. See how the Elite is received by the community, then decide if you want to spring for it or spend less and buy the Premium.

It's entirely possible there will be a price cut, but I've got no idea how soon (or not soon) that may happen.

Yes... I think I'll be waiting.

Does anyone have an estimate if there will be a big quality difference (if any, at all) between the HDMI on the Elite and the VGA on the standard?

it really just depends on your tv.hdmi this...vga that...which ever one supports your tvs native resolution is the one to go with.my 37 inch phillips lcd is only 720p so component does me just fine.the really cool thing about the elite is the 120 gig, which your gonna want.the 20 gig with the premium fills pretty quick if you get demos, videos,or final fantasy tongue.gif .

Romanulus, I am in the EXACT same position as you are. I've decided to wait for the ELITE.
It's a no brainer really...the elite is gonna be sweet. Plus your only paying $80 more for HDMI and a 120 gig HDD, which everyone else will have to pay twice as much for. Plus you would have to pay extra for that VGA cable if you got the Premium console anyways, so why bother.
Just be patient...It will be worth the wait.

personally i would buy a used premium edition with the m25 sammy drive

you can do alot more with it. ... like back your games up for one.
good luck with the elite.. microsoft comes with new security measures everytime they unvail something new.

if u are into mods.. which you prob are (your here)
buy a used premium .. you wont be sorry

I think like this guy. I'm pretty sure MS will have implemented some new hacking protection in the Elite version (perhaps new drive, new firmware), so I wouldn't count on being able to mod it from day one. Eventually someone will hack that one too, but noone knows how long it could take and I simply wouldn't want to wait that long.

I don't belive there is any noticable difference between HDMI and component and I have never been able to fill my 20Gb drive (I'm deleting demos and trailers when I'm done with them) so a bigger drive is not a reason for waiting either imo. Lastly, the used premium consoles will probably drop alot in price because people want to 'upgrade' to an Elite, so there is a good opportunity to get a hold of a already modded 360 for a nice price by then.

Hmmmm, yes... Renting and ba... I mean, having backups of my games is nice.

I'm coming from Xbox1, so I'm still not all sure about the modding of the 360, but, is it only really possible to do this (as said above), with the premium with that dvd drive?

Thanks, again. smile.gif

Well I think the main pluses of the Elite are the Black finish (which I want), and the 120GB hard drive (which is also being sold seperately).

HDMI is nice but it's only good for HD-DVD movies when the HDCP flag comes on in 2012, it's useless for games since component's and VGA are exactly the same in terms of image quality. The only difference is it's digital compared to anolgue.

I just hope when they release it in Europe the Elite will have 65NM CPU's, then I will be happy. Because Europe has to wait for everything. Hopefully by fall time I will have a nice 1080p HDMI TV as well.

better put on more then a flame shield if you're going to hint at piracy. But to simplify things, as long as you get a 360 with a Hitachi or a Samsung drive, you can modify the firmware. Just a number I'm pulling out of my butt but probably 90-95% of the current 360s on the market you can modify the firmware. But with the Elite? who knows. Probably not immediately.

I'm debating with myself whether i want the Elite too, but i wouldn't want the black finish as it'd mean either painting the case white, or all my accessories black. The 120GB hard drive would be cool, but i dunno whether i'd fill it or not. I've never maxed out my hard drive, despite downloading loads of demos, then deleting them when i get the game. The HDMI doesn't interest me at all, i have a spare HDMI on my TV, but my HD DVDs through component look as good as what Sky HD does through HDMI. But as i need a new 360 it's whether or not its worth buying an elite, or premium & 120GB hard drive, which would cost more.

Good speculation so far. smile.gif

... So I guess the question now comes down to modding and such: Will the Elite have the potential to be modded (more, or less) than the current premium.

Hummm.

Knowing M$, I'm sure they are building in new counter-measures or just retweaking current ones.

As for the guys waitng go buy a core system and add a flashed sata 120 gig hard drive after the 29th when the key is released.

I personaly believe it has nothing to do with tweaking anything or counter measures. Its an attempt to recope money for the manufactures of the counsel. As far as what I am reading none of the manufactures are making any thing I would call profit. The Elite is just an attempt to gain some loses. Maybe they should start making cases from old tires or aluminum cans. Regardless the ccnsumer takes it in the shorts again thats why I am now a con-sumer. I have given up waitng for the hack to come out to run games from the HD. I am eyeballing the Sont 400 DVD changer that my wife bought me for x-mas lol it could hold alot of games. Wonder if M$ would make a dashboard update for that. It has been a ongoing idea of mine to merge the DVD rom drive frim the 360 into the SOny changer and now with the new update comming out it would display the game on the dashboard. Probably to slow for changing but its a start. If all goes according to plan I will be able to operate it from the XBOX remote. Teh most expensive part will be the vacation trip my wife will ahve to go on for me to accomplish this and find the reciept incase of mission failure. "But Honey it still plays movies" I have learned the Hair Dryer is the modders best friend to prevent warrenty voiding....wink wink.
