First (official) look at the Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update
Posted by XanTium | April 11 22:30 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From on10.net (FYI: Microsoft owned blog):
[QUOTE]
You might have heard some buzz ;) about a little thing called the spring dashboard update for Xbox 360! You know I had to run right over to see what we'll be getting the week of May 7th. We show you how Windows Live integration lets you IM your gamer buddies from games, from your cellphone, or from work (poor you), and we give you an up-close look at the new Xbox 360 keypad.

Lots of new features...but how many problems does it resolve?

I'm tired of in-game lockups.

Is there anything in this that we didn't already know? Don't want to watch a 23 minute video for nothing.

Just a more detailed look at the dashboard. Thats all!

3 people in a Instant Message Chatroom right? I haven't heard anything about voice chat expanded.

They aren't selling the keyboard thing 'til late summer? Better go get a USB keyboard...

Overall id say it looks like a decent update, Im definitely not blown away by any means but not bad. I personally dont care much for windows live messenger integration (All my friends use aim). Looks like the marketplace got a much needed facelift at least, some of those small features look pretty cool too (name of the disc in the tray and achievement info when you have the tray selected, autoshutdown, etc). A few extra codecs are a plus too. I still wish they implemented RSS feeds though (And im GLAD they havent implemented a webbrowser, man browsing on a TV w/ a controller blows). They might as well get a modded xbox (Bill probably has one I heard he was impressed a few years ago) install XBMC and MC360 and MS will be set w/ future updates for the 360 for like the next 3 years or more haha

Downloading vid now. Looks good, but still a few features missing IMO.

1. Xvid playback. Not too necessary to me as my 360 and my PC are on the same 40" LCD in my room, but would be cool.

2. Shoutcast playback. Internet radio would be great while playing games. I love hearing new tracks.

3. Um...Voice chat with msn people, even though most wont have a headset. Seriously thats the only thing i can think of right now

One thing I want to know is do you have to use the email address associated with your live account? If that is the case this is no good for me.

They should really think about the way Sony is doing business pushing BlueRay on everyone. They're trying to capture the next movie format.

Microsoft should drop $5 or whatever the headset costs and bundle them with EVERY 360 sold. Enable voice chat/chatrooms and MSN would give AIM a run for their money guaranteed.

Thumbnail thing is a bit true.

Would love the keyboard, it would be infinite amounts of laziness tho.... Picture-in-Picture for TV, Messenger and a game.... If it was voice instead it would be amazing

If only the update included Halo3 it would be a bit better................. sleep.gif
