Is Microsoft’s Xbox 360's Success Really All That Successful?
Posted by XanTium | April 13 12:41 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From cinemablend.com:
[QUOTE]
As you may have read here on CB Games, Microsoft had some wins and losses with their entertainment division throughout 2006. But while they netted an income from the entertainment division of $2.63 billion at the end of December 2006, according to Internet News, what was the exact costs and catches for the Xbox 360? Well, let's have a look and see what we find.

One of the things we've all wondered about is how well Microsoft is making due with the costly next-gen hardware, considering that the original Xbox was abandoned for being costly, if memory serves me correctly. But Microsoft is apparently faring rather evenly with last year's entertainment division losses (which included the Xbox 360), as the operating downside of $414 million was the total expenditure at the end of 2006.

Hands down, it's quite indisputable that the Xbox 360 has far surpassed its first-generation sibling, in both hardware and software sales. So in essence, it appears the success of the Xbox 360 is quite successful, so far. I mean, it's certainly not a blockbuster success like the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo Wii, or the PS2, but in regards to Microsoft's console efforts the Xbox 360 isn't quite slothing around like the original Xbox. We'll have to track how well Microsoft fares by the end of this year to see if the software continues on an upward trend, especially with triple-A PS3 titles on the horizon.

Lower the price of Core & Premium, release Halo3, GTA4, Forza 2 and many other Xbox 1 classics then you have your success. The 360 still has a good 3-5 maybe more years life left in it. Hell PS3 has only just been released here.

just wathced ATOS on g4, they had people there talking about the 360,
Saying they dont see the ps3 catching up to the success of the 360, and the Wii, not catching up at least for another year....

I mean think about it, the 360 has a pretty damn nice line up of games coming ,,,, 360 exclusives,,,

I dont see alot of ps3 games that are really very interesting at all....

Although the 360 has been out longer, of course it has an advantage,

I mean think about it, game publishers see a cconsole that is easier to develop for,,,,
That has been out longer, With nearly same power and or capablities,
Millions of consoles already out there being used, Why take a big chance publishing a game specific to ps3, Its not yet an established console and less consoles in homes means less money for the publisher.

(I am talking only exclusive titles)

I in no way hate the ps3, i just am not real impressed with the titles and the quality of games i have played so far.

No i dont have one but do play my nephews, and brother in laws when i am around them.

They usually have me bring my 360 over during family events.
So maybe that does say something

I do think though the 360 really need's to drop it's price because like UK we pay £200 for core when germany pay only £135 after euro to pound they also need to throw in a free mem card that will draw some people in maybe even make people think hold on this is cheaper then the wii.

Another thing that puts lot of people of is hering about faults and high fail rate £280 if get premium one is a lot of money to throw away on faulty hardware and thats not even adding up what people would of paid £35-£40 a game.

I've yet to see, or even hear about any PS3 only games that even slightly interest me.

i agree...the PS3 is indisputably doing very poorly right now and there is minimal hope on the horizon - at least in the area of any games.

the 360 is not doing as unexpectedly well as the Wii, but its sales figures and market momentum is impressive.

i don't get it, the Wii sucks big time. I had it for 4 days and got rid of it.
The only game that really "worth" playing is Zelda, and it is also on gamecube. The controller is not as good as you think it is, not to mention there is no game that actually work well with that "so so" controller.
Graphics is pretty muddy on HDTV even in 480p (think ps2 on HDTV)
And yet, it still sold out everywhere.

i guess bunches of ppl wanna get together with their family members and play those boring mini-games, waving their hands like idiots. EVEN THAT, it gets old REAL QUICK

im a video game addict! i love them, and i want all of them. but i agree, nothing really makes me want to buy the ps3 or wii. resistance looks a game i would love! but for that one game so far? i could buy my pc a sweet video card with that dough biggrin.gif and the wii... i LOVE cod games, the one that just came out has horrible reviews about the controls, so why bother. i hope ps3 does start pullin some weight, 360 needs the competition, and damnit, i need a reason to buy one smile.gif
