Next-Gen.biz Analysis: The 'Disastrous' Xbox 360?
Posted by XanTium | April 19 19:35 EST | News Category: Xbox360
From next-gen.biz: [QUOTE] A financial analyst says that Microsoft needs to "own up" to the "disastrous" money-losing Xbox business. However two games analysts tell Next-Gen that the analysis is short-sighted and Microsoft unsurprisingly agrees. Multi-angle analysis of the 360 situation inside...
Ehrenberg's views aren't anything new, but it's a reminder that Microsoft is still in an uphill battle and it's dumping loads of money into its ambition to become the leader of connected interactive entertainment in the living room. If anything, Ehrenberg's criticisms and Microsoft's spending underlines the importance of the interactive entertainment business on a variety of levels, as well as the ferocious competition endured by Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. People have to realise that most analysts, scientists, market researchers, whatever do not do research for no reason and without funding. For that reason you should always question the reliability of press releases and the like if you do not know who the backers are. That goes equally for MS and Sony

Like any of it matters when you make $12 billion in profit every year and have $30+ billion in the bank. Everyone knows M$ will outspend their opponent. They can afford to lose tons of money, something the competition cannot. Wait until they actually start to make a profit... Watch out...

What a bunch of crap that article is. Two of the points are about failure in the Japanese market. I think we've pretty much already established that it would take a heck of a lot of arm twisting to get the Japanese to drop their loyalty to Sony/Nintendo and go with Microsoft. And besides, the world is a lot bigger than just Japan. The US and EU markets are doing just fine. I look around me and see a lot of friends/co-workers just getting their 360s. Also, the XBL marketplace has a lot to offer. I never had XBL with the original Xbox, but I really enjoy XBL with the 360 (except for the ridiculous pricing of the GH2 DLC). This will provide another stream of revenue for MS. I've already purchased several XBL games as well as some extra game content. The arguments are very weak.

another extremely poorly written article designed completely for "shock value" and without much credit or evidence in actual facts...we should save all these articles for when in 2-3 years there is a 360-like MS device in practically every home acting as the source for the complete home entertainment experience...

A financial analyst does not know the gaming industry, I'm not saying I do but both Sony and M$ make a loss on there consoles, it's a risk but if you get it right it's well worth it. These analysts need to shut the hell up.

Well i think Microsoft will do ok, no matter what some idiot thinks. Most reports in mid 2006 said xbox would turn profitable in a year or two. On top of that, Yeah, its his money, and i think hes doing well. Soon as Vista service pack 1 is released people will all think its stable and run out and buy it and Office 2007, that going to be lot of money to pile into xbox
