This is a quick tutorial to help you prepare your USB Key with XBM in order to flash using the MTKFLASH command. You will find the MS25/28 Flashing Tutorial and the Step By Step Tutorial On How To Flash Ms25&ms28 by MyFranco both using that method.
It is therefore not meant for those who use the .BAT files samread/flash (XBM 3.6), xread/xflash (XBM 5.3), iDump/iFlash (iPrep101).

You can find these software at iPrep 101, Xtreme Boot Maker v0.5.3 and Xtreme Boot Maker v0.3.6. When used with a mtkflash method then all versions will do just as good since you are not using the .BAT files.

Using iPrep 101
  1. Obtain iXtreme10.rar and extract xtrem10a.bin to a directory (note if you use iXtreme12 see note 2 below)
  2. Download, install, and run iPrep 101
  3. Select Load your iXtreme firmware file and select the firmware file xtrem10a.bin
  4. Select Custom SerialATA
  5. Click List SCSI Controllers ( or List IDE Controllers for some on-board Sata )
  6. In the scroll down select your controller:
    • Via VT6421
    • Via 8237
    • Some 8237 will sometime appear as DUAL Standard IDE controller
  7. Leave the Hitachi sections unchanged since we will not be using the firmware generated by XBM.
  8. Select the Format / Make Drive Bootable and in Destination Drive the letter associated to your USB (or floppy)
  9. Click Do It!
  10. On the USB I suggest you erase the iflash , iDump, Samtool, Xtremefw.bin files.
Note: Since you not using the firmware included by XBM, any samsung firmware file will work to genereate the USB key.

***************

Using XBM 5.3 (see Note 1 Below)
  1. Obtain any samsung firmware package xxxx.rar ( If you get IMPORT FAILED, see below)
  2. Download, install, and run XBM5.3
  3. Go to tab General Options / open firmware and select the firmware file xxxx.rar
  4. Only if you have a MS28 select Apply Bokes Patch
  5. Select Use Custom Controller
  6. Click List SCSI Controllers ( or List IDE Controllers for some on-board Sata )
  7. In the scroll down select your controller:
    • Via VT6421
    • Via 8237
    • Some 8237 will sometime appear as DUAL Standard IDE controller
  8. Go to tab Create Basic disk
  9. Deselect I want to Flash multiple Drives and enter any number like 1234567 12345
  10. Leave the Xtreme firmware and Hitachi-LG sections unchanged since we will not be using the firmware generated by XBM.
  11. Select the Format / Make Drive Bootable and in Destination Drive the letter associated to your USB (or floppy)
  12. Click Create Disk
  13. On the USB I suggest you erase the Xflash , Xread, Samtool, Xtremefw.bin files.
Note: Since you not using the firmware included by XBM, any samsung firmware file will work to genereate the USB key.

****************

Using XBM 3.6
  1. Follow the steps in the Textbook Tutorial
  2. You can disregard the error when opening the firmware since we are not keeping the firmware anyway.
  3. No need to copy the X360SAM v0.6 since it will not be used
  4. On the USB I suggest you erase the files Samflash , Samread, Samhack, and Xtreme.bin
    (under the directory Samsung)
    .
You now have a USB key that can be use to
-read your orig.bin firmware using the mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin command
-You can transfer the key to a hacked.bin firmware using FW toolbox 3.0 under windows
-Flash your hacked.bin firmware using the mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin command
This is all presented in MS25/28 Flashing Tutorial and the Step By Step Tutorial On How To Flash Ms25&ms28.

Some specific posting rules for this thread:
-Do not ask about how to use this with Samflash, xflash..., it is not meant for it, you need to find another tutorial.
-The scope of this thread stops the moment the USB key is generated, do not ask about your flashing problems, or the drive not being seen...
For all these, plse plse post in Newbie Chat under the appropriate thread.

rgds, soso

Note 1: **For XBM 5.3 only**** IMPORT FAILED
You need to update a file in XBM 5.3 in order to open the latest xtreme in step 1 ( redownload XBM 5.3 or for iXtreme the update for ixtreme ).
Just FYI because it is not needed for this method since we insert hacked firmware manually later. (this method does not use the firmware file inserted by XBM at preparation time, only the booting portion of the USB key generated so you can use Xtreme52.rar and it will work just as good biggrin.gif )
*******************
Note 2: **For iPrep 101 only****
You need to update a file in iPrep in order to open the latest iXtreme1.2 in step 1, you can have it at iprep definitions v5
Just FYI because it is not needed for this method since we insert hacked firmware manually later. (this method does not use the firmware file inserted by iPrep at preparation time, only the booting portion of the USB key generated so you can use iXtreme1.0 and it will work just as good biggrin.gif )

i got the update for XBM053, when i double clicked and after accepting the usual Microsoft warning for active X, screen showed code like this, has this worked, do i need to run each time i open XBM053, or is there a new XBM that includes.

you do not run that,
just replace that file in the XBM5.3 directory with the one you just dowloaded.

if you copied the "5xDef.xml" available at x-projects in

C:\Program Files\X-Projects\Xtreme Boot Maker

and you get import failed, most probably your firmware file for 5.3 is not what it should

just wondering do we use the "Create Restore Disk" to flash the disk back to the original f/w before we flash the drive to the new iXtreme?
Thanks

just use the last SBU you had, the mtkflash is already on it so no need to redo it.

Just prepare your firmware and use mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin and you are done

Hello I bought myself a xbox360 yesterday and am reading up on how to flash the samsung firmware. I still have a question though, offcourse I wanna use the ixtreme 1.2 fw and I wanted to use iprep to prepare the files and because of the lack of a usb stick or floppy drive I wanted to use a bootable cd. To burn the bootable cd should I choose CD-ROM (Boot)? Or what settings to place the files iprep prepared for me onto it. And when I start up from the bootable cd wont I not be able to dump the orig.bin since a cd is obviously not writable like a floppy or usb stick?

Thanks for any help I may recieve

the cd options is NTFS4Dos so it will keep your PC harddisk active, and that is where the info will be written.

also note that some people had problems with that appraoch, not saying it will not work biggrin.gif , just some had more difficulties than usb.
