Games for Windows Live (or how I got my first Halo 2 Achievement)
Posted by XanTium | April 24 21:08 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From majornelson.com (FYI: MS owned blog):
[QUOTE]
I got my hands on a gold copy of Halo 2 for Windows Vista yesterday (it goes on sale in a few weeks) and after installing it I did a few things that, while geeky, are worth mentioning. Some are downright cool:
* After installing H2 for Vista, I was able to sign in to Xbox LIVE from the 'Guide' within the game, and see all of my LIVE friends, messages etc.
* I hooked up my Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and my Wireless headset to my PC via the Wireless Gaming Receiver.
* I was able to send and receive text and voice messages from the guide to other LIVE members who were on their Xbox 360's. You press the Guide button on your controller and the guide pops up over the game - just like on the Xbox 360.
* Got my first Halo 2 Achievement (and added another 30 points to my GS)
* While I was playing through the first level of the campaign, I was on a voice chat over my wireless headset with Litheon who was playing Gears of War on his Xbox 360.

It will get even better when Shadowrun ships later this year and PC players and Xbox 360 players can not only communicate over LIVE but also compete against each other.

That's great to hear it working as it should! smile.gif It would have been nice if he tried Windows XP though.

edit: I forgot, Vista Only.

while i have not played any pc games in a few years, that still sounds cool. personally, id rather play these games on the 360. none the less...still pretty cool how people are/will be able to have the option to play some of these games on their pc's and still be on xbox live.
thanks for the info!

Personally Vista is fine. No issues here. Used it for the past few months. Have not had any issues. On the Halo 2 part, I am going to pick up a copy and play it and use its map editor. Its also a nice alternative when people don't wanna dish out for a 360 and be able to gain a gamer score.

So, PC players won't be playing 360 players with Halo 2, but they will with Shadowrun?

That sounds freakin sweet, only downside is the wallet raping PC users are reciving they gotta upgrade PC to vista, spend on hardware and buy LIVE sad.gif if it werent for that the price, i would at least be willing to pay 50 a yr for that kinda stuff. is the game vista only or DX10 only? i heard somewhere(i might be wrong) that someone got dx10 on xp working

The game is DX9c, but it'll only run in Vista. It is not DX10. Crysis is the first DX10 game, I believe.
