Xbox 360 HD DVD player at 72.54usd at retailer
Posted by XanTium | April 25 15:34 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From punchjump.com:
[QUOTE]
Select Sam's Club warehouse stores in the U.S. are selling Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 HD DVD Player for $72.54.

According to a thread on popular shopping website FatWallet.com, a buyer was able to purchase the external high-definition peripheral for the discounted amount.
The price would represent the lowest in-store discount for the device, which typically retails for $199. Samsclub.com sells the product for $181.42.

Where is the proof? Sams Club still has it for 181 and AFAIK they have the same price in all stores. Web Sites post these stories with no proob yet the circulate like wildfire.

A worldwide price drop on the drive would sure help HD-DVD sales, but dam the HD-DVD Forum seriously need to do some more marketing, all I see is Blu-Ray this, Blu-Ray that.

why is this news?

Its still a huge YMMV deal.

only 1 person on fatwallet as confirmed it to be 72 at their sams club in NY

from the gizmodo article it sounds like they are just being cleared out and nothing more.

You couldn't be more right, I have never seen a single add for HD-DVD while almost everyday I see Bluray being pushed.

The only people that seem to know and appreciate the quality of HD-DVD are hardcore home theatre people, while that is good it is not how you expand a format.

They really have to get the marketing in gear.

That would suck if HD-DVD lost the format war. We would all have to buy bluray add on drives. Say hello to another 200$ or so.

Price drop would really sell the HD-DVD sales. Well at least thats what I think.

i'd buy an hd-dvd drive for $72. however, discs will be pointless in the future. everything will be a download, sooner or later. this will be the last format war. but, the first of many huge console wars. can't we just get to the next-nexgen? ;p

I'm willing to bet that it was merely a pricing error, since some of you have said that only one sale of the HD-DVD add-on at $72 is confirmed. The price was probably supposed to be $172.

I read that Sam's is weeding out the HD-DVD add-on, so eventually the stores that still have it in stock will drop the price. You should also know that, apparently, later this year Wal-Mart is going to start selling several ~$200 standalone HD-DVD drives (and will not sell Blu-Ray, they don't get along with Sony too well I guess), so you can't even fathom calling Blu-Ray the winner if this ends up being true. $200 HD-DVD drives at Wal-Mart vs. $800 Blu-Ray drives elsewhere = HD-DVD wins the format war.
