The Elite is Out and Seems Readily Available
Posted by XanTium | April 29 18:44 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From arstechnica.com:
[QUOTE]
I showed up at a local big box retailer, picked up the system, noticed no one else in line, and went on my merry way.

Reports coming in from readers indicate that this is how it is throughout most of the United States, although a few of you did have to check more than one store to find a unit. We called around Boston and NYC, and retailers all had plenty of units in those cities, too. Indy, Chicago, and San Diego also seem well stocked. Demand, in other words, is light, but that's not too surprising given that this is a hardware spec bump and not really a new console per se.

Just got back from Target (which was the first place I even thought about looking to see if they had it,) and they had 2 of them on the shelf. I proceeded to shake my head in frustration at being an early adopter of the system considering I could have an extra 100gb's of hard drive space and an HDMI port for only 80 bucks more than I originally spent. The 360 will be the last system I buy at launch.

they should make an upgrade trade-in deal or somethin. like for 100 or 150 u send in ur working premium 360 and get the elite. or at least make a hard drive deal thing where for like 100 u can get the 120gb and trade in ur old 20gb.

That will never happen, that's more like wishful thinking. Like if you buy a big phat PS2 and see a slim one come out a few years later, or you buy a photo ipod and a video ipod comes out soon.

It's sods law, you get what you buy, your best bet is to sell your current system and buy an elite if you so want it.

And remember it's a laptop hard drive, I'm sure the price of an external 120gb laptop hard drive is almost the same price as a 360 120gb laptop hard drive that is all enclosed and ready to be used. Remember MS put content on each and everyone of them drives.

So you would give up a year and a half of gaming just to get the HDMI and 120? Doesn't make any sense to me.

As with what seems to be the majority of the people who tried to get one, I also found that there was literally no one else in line or even showing up within the first hour of the store being open. There are 2 EBGames' and a GameStop in my town, and the EB I went to(had 2 units to sell) which was in a mall, was empty. Aparently there was a line of around 16 people at the other EB, and no one at the GameStop.

I agree, I have no problem with having bought the 360 in January of 2006. It's just the way it goes. You shouldn't be angry that a "newer" version came out. Upgrade your hdd, and tests have shown the hdmi doesn't give an incredibly noticeable performance boost, especially since it's just v1.2 (i think).

The HDMI would be nice to have, but component cables support 1080i and 720p on the Premium, and for most people who already own the Premium, $480 is a lot of money to shell out just to get the HDMI. If you want the larger HD, you can buy it as a separate add-on.
