Just wanted to do a quick survey about the type of dvd-rom drive you have and if you've had problems with it. When the first iteration of xbox was released, the samsung drive seemed to be the most reliable as far as dirty disc errors and media readability. From personal experience i've found that previous statement to be very true as i initially had a thompson drive. Bought another xbox with a samsung drive and worked beautifully.

Well now with the release of the 360 it seems more and more people have been complaining about dirty disc errors and red lights of sadness. i wanted to try to get an idea if there was any correlation with the types of errors we were all getting and the type of drive that was installed. Again on a more personal note, i originally bought a launch 360 with a hitachi drive. I got a few red light errors, got a few dirty disc errors and those dreaded artifacts people were talking about. Exchanged it for another 360 with a samsung drive and i haven't had a problem since.

So out of a bit of curiosity mixed with scientific research, i pose these questions to anyone that would like to participate....

For those of you that HAVE had problems with your 360. What kind of drive do you have inside it?

If you HAVE had problems with it just post "YES - (and which dvd-rom drive you have and the types of problems you've had)

For those of you that HAVE NOT had any problems with your 360. What kind of drive do you have inside it?

If you HAVE NOT had problems with it just post "NO - (and which dvd-rom drive you have)

You may also post the date it was manufactured if you like.

Below are the different drives and what they look like if you don't know what kind of drive you have:

Yes- Samsung
Yes- Hitachi (second system)
No- Hitachi (third system)
No- BENQ (friends)

I have been through a few systems (3). My friend has the benq so I went ahead and posted his results. This thread would work best in a poll.

No for Samsung and Yes, but I bought a refurbished xbox for my little brother, and it was DOA

I did a swap at wal mart and got another sammy and it is working strong

I think it has something also to do with the way you have it set up. Some people might not have it properly ventilated, to where it can breathe. I believe heat kills it.
