does anyone know what my options are?
i do not see much in the way of fixes...
if anyone can help it would be highly appreciated
basically i was using the newest firmware toolbox to flash the latest release for hitachi's
and while it dumped correctly(i did a checksum, to check if the raw dump was ok) as soon as it was flashing it froze one third of the way, as in all of windows froze)
any suggestions are greatly appreciated
thx
incidentally i flashed my other 360(premium) which 47dj and it flashed superb!
so if anyone knows what could have gone wrong your ideas are inmensely appreciated

Well, you will have to be a little more specific on how you flashed this 78. What type of SATA Connection are you using ( PCI, Motherboard/ VIA etc... ).

To say that your Elite will be totally useless is not in question.

If you have the original firmware from your 78, you can purchase a Hitachi or Samsung and replace it.

Other than that man, I would try to restore that original firmware you have. Is the drive not being detected in windows anymore? And have you hooked it back up to your 360 to make sure it doesn't work?

More information and help will be on it's way... biggrin.gif

ummm....

I bricked my v78 hitachi the other day too, I thought it was because it lost power, but id did stop around a third of the way in, the same as yours!

Wonder if theirs something incompatible with both of our computers, seems as though we both bricked a v78 drive, trying to flash with the same fw toolbox, released just a few days ago?

well if it helps i was using the motherboard via connections
i was wondering if i can use a hitachi drive of lower version if i spoof it or something?
or what other options do i have?
as soon as i rebooted the drive wouldnt be detected in windows(though sometimes my bios does detect a third cd-rom drive, but i cant seem to put it in modeb or get it recognized in windows

as well best of luck to do a restore, and save your drive.
(BTW keep that firmware safe and never work on your master file, make a copy of it wink.gif , or even better open in fwtoolbox and print a copy of the key)
if not, and you decide to replace it, here are some tut

How To Replace A Hitachi Drive, How To Flash & Spoof To A Different Model
How To Replace By A Samsung Drive, Also How To Spoof, Flash, and correct E66 Errors .

good luck

I'm pretty sure a 47DJ can be spoofed to look like a v78. If it is, I'll be ordering one from this site later today:

http://www.igameconsoles.com

(the right drive aint on the site, but hes selling them on ebay....he has over 13k feedback! Here)

Unless I can find somewhere else in the UK which sells em....but £30 is pretty cheap! biggrin.gif

(and cheers soso, never thought to print it out to keep it safe - now the only way im gonna loose my key is if my house burns down, but I would just file a insurance claim for my 360 then! laugh.gif )

If you have your firmware key you can certainly just get a replacement drive. If you do not have a valid original firmware (or the key) then you need a DVD/Motherboard combo.

well im pretty sure i got the key (cuz i was able to dump the orig.bin through a "raw dump" with the latest firmware toolbox)
the key inside orig.bin is the one i need right?
i copied the key and pasted it to the modified firmware yet it still bricked sad.gif

Yeh, just get firmware toolbox, and open the firmware.....your key should be their to copy and paste..

and remember, it really is the key, without it, your whole console is useless! ohmy.gif (so dont loose it!)

I've got my key, and I'll have a new drive.....

All I'm worried about is if their really is something wrong with my computer which caused it! Will I get a new drive, and brick it straight away?! laugh.gif
