Hybrid Innovations MSC (Motion Sensitive Controller) Board
Posted by XanTium | May 23 23:23 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Looks like we'll get a 4th commercial 'Tilt addon' for the Xbox 360 controller. After the Talismoon tiltBoard (made with Adam Thole), GreenGiant's Xilt and Team Xtender's XCM BesTilt, Hybrid Innovations informed us they are working on the MSC (Motion Sensitive Controller) Board (tentative name).
'Tilt addons' essentially replaces the left analog stick of the Xbox 360 controller to allow the user to controller the item or character in the game with actual motion (a bit like the Wii Controller and Sixaxis).

Here's the list of features we got from them:
* 3 levels of sensitivity (we realize, depending what game, some actions need to be more fluent than others, i/e: playing a racing or flying game). The levels of sensitivity are Low-Medium-High. Sensitivity can be controlled externally by pressing a sequence of buttons on the controller. We chose the LB and RB (L1 & R1) buttons to dictate this function (why? - these are the buttons least used in games).
-In order to get into the sensitivity choosing mode, one must simply hold the R1 button and then switch through the different modes by hitting the L1 button (hit L1 once for medium level, twice to go to high level). To reset it to the lowest level, one must hold the R1 button for 5 seconds without touching L1.
* Ability to turn the chip on and off - this is done by pressing the L1 & R1 buttons simultaneously for 5 second. There is no external switch needed.
* Low Wire count - just 9 wires!
* Surface mountable - completely fits inside the controller without any modification to the plastic enclosure.
* Practicality - although there is a version that enables USB support, we have noticed in our research that this is not practical. One would always have to open the back cover to access the PCB, this is where the USB Connector is located thus making the board inconvenient. In addition, with the different levels of sensitivity present on our design, it eliminates the strain the user would have to go to by messing around the degrees of motion themselves.
* CHEAP - we promise to deliver the LOWEST price from any of our competitors, currently the estimated retail price is $29.99. We also include a tool to open the xBox 360 controller in every package - NONE of the competitors offer this.
* MSC Board is not limited to the xBox 360 - however, the pre-installed code is specifically for the xBox 360 controller. Upon a dealer's request, we can slightly edit the code to add motion sensitive control to almost any device that has an analog output!

Official Site: soon - not online yet (by Hybrid Innovations)

Umm, cool? Are these things any good? I cant see them being that useful. May make a different style of gameplay, but i reckon it'd get old quick.

if it worked correctly it would be cool for flying games (not really an over abbundance of those though.)

I don't think I'd bother with this, M$ have one in the pipeline, which will have more compatibility.

Good work, but pointless.

I don't know, I guess I just think we should support the original dude who came up with the mod and actually licensed the design so it could be sold nationally in retail stores. It's just a great story. I know capitalism is great and all, but it's kind of lame that everytime someone releases something cool for the scene every tom, dick & charlie trys to make their own version and undercut the original in terms of pricing...

Who knows, that might not be the case here, this could have been in development for a long time, but it sure comes off that way... I know people don't care because they just want to save $, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that, it just rubs me, personally, the wrong way...

At lest this version comes with something that separates itself from the original (controller button acvitated sensitivity control), so that is cool I suppose tongue.gif

why are they wanting to make it switchless.. clearly the thing doesnt fit inside the controller, so how would two switches be a bother.. id rather have switches than having button presses whilst in game... 1 three pole switch for sensitivity.. low - med- high 1 switch for on off.. thats what i say!

inside the wired controller you have just enough space, about 3-4mm.
in the wireless controller you have even less room.
And its in a weird shape because theres plastic dividers.

this will certainly not be an easy install for the average person, as if its out of alignment the case wont close.

This fits perfectly in a wireless controller. Upon our development, we focused more on the wireless than the wired. In addition, this project has been development for many months (approximately 5) and not just an overnight imitation. The installation would be rated as medium, and it is surely that other people will offer the installation service. Samples are going out to this forum as we speak!

feflicker: in response to licensing, microsoft actually came out with a similar product many moons ago but it was not very popular. in addition, in terms of patenting this, it's a simple accelometer, and that is what they do. the coding is what differentiates this product entirely. in another note of difficulty, one of our sales reps who has very mediocre experience in soldering was able to perform the installation. please advise if anymore questions. thanks!
