I'm going nuts over all this info. I've read heaps and only got a tad "smarter" on the subject, so I hope some of you can help me get this.

Right now I've got a wired router connect to my pc and my xbox, but it looks awful with cables all over the place, and my router is driving me crazy with disconnects all the time. So I thought I should invest in a wireless solution for my xbox and pc(and to finally play the DS over wifi), but I'm not sure at all what's possible and reasonable.

What I've found out is that it seems like wireless is very expensive no matter what I do, but I would like it to be as cheap as possible. And I figure I must buy a wireless router(please advice a good and cheap one for this) and maybe an accesspoint(wireless bridge?) for the xbox, right? Or is it better to buy two routers? One for the pc and one for the xbox? I thought accesspoints were relatively cheap, like 40 bucks, but most I've seen are over $100, so I figure it would be cheaper to buy two wireless routers, right? Is there any benefit in having an accesspoint over a router?

I have between 5-10 yards between the pc (where I'll probably setup the router) and the xbox on the same floor, shouldn't be a problem with the strength of the signal I guess.

Anyway, is it possible to set it up this way? Are there any cheaper alternatives to accesspoints? Do I have to have specific brands or is it enough that they use the same frequencies, 802.11/a/b/g?

Please help me build up a wireless system as cheap as possible!

Seems like you are pretty tech savy, or at lest can be. This is the hint I will give to you: La Fonera, DD-WRT, Ebay, Client Bridge Mode.

That should set you on your way.

Did you??? uhh.gif uhh.gif

I'm in the same boat - I've got a wireless router on the way and am in the process of looking for an adapter for the Xbox.

Anyway, if you grab a wireless router, try and get an 802.11g one (faster) and a wireless access point. You can't use a USB or a PCI one - You need a gaming adapter. Setup your router to only use the MAC address(es) you want to authorise (unless you want your neighbours raping your bandwidth!!) and away you go. As far as setting up you Xbox goes, hopefully someone here might be able to give you some pointers about that.

this post is just ...

Look. There is two ways you can do this. It is explained in the FAQ at the top of the page. The first way is BUY THE MICROSOFT WIRELESS ADAPTER (THERE IS NO 3RD PARTY ONE)
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Ne...8719&sr=8-1

The second way. Use two routers with client bridge. GUIDE IN THE FAQ LINK HERE :

The third way (extremely shitty way) get some shoddy "game adapter" that runs really slow and try to make it work fort he x360 http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WGA11B-Wirel...8719&sr=8-3

Sorry just reread my post thought this was in xbox 360 forums. The above adapter only works for the 360.
