Xecuter Blaster360 Hitachi-LG 046/047 Fix PCB
Posted by XanTium | June 6 12:17 EST | News Category: Xbox360

We saw this news at one wholesaler:
We have received a new batch of Blaster 360 from Team Xecuter that now comes with a special PCB called the Hitachi Fix.
We found a bit more info about this issue on the team xecuter forums:
There were quite a few issues with some of the older Hitachi 046 and 047 DVD units when used with the Blaster 360 and we have spent a great deal of time investigating the cause.

For those that have issues we have designed an immediate fix which requires a tiny amount of easy soldering to solve the poor latency of these Hitachi drives. You also have to cut the two traces between the two soldering points - its not difficult and easily reverible if you ever need to.

Its simply adding 2 x missing 10nf capacitors to the DVD drive circuit board (as seen in the pictures)

We will be providing these PCB's free of charge for resellers to ship to customers who wish to try this solution to fix their problems (non booting, E64 etc). Shipping of the PCB fixes has started to all resellers. Here are some pictures, we will post install instructions when the fix is available to ship.

Maybe I'm wrong, but couldn't they have done it right the first time? I wonder if the XCM one has problems like this.

What ever happened to it being an easy solder free installation?

No shit proger. This thing was delayed so many times 'so they could work out every bug' and finally realeased. It's supposed to be a no solder approach to being able to flash your drive and rip games, now you have to cut traces, and quicksolder a board to your drive. Bad, bad, bad.

well, they realized the problem, and fixed it, and it's free, so what are you complaining about? from what i read it's a problem with the dvd drive, not the blaster. correct?

The complaint is that this goes against what was promised for the Blaster. I've done my share of modding systems and I'm not comfortable cutting traces. I'm not a fan of quick-solder usually..but ultimately this is bad for a lot of people. I'm imagining a big backlash on this. I normally support Xecuter and what they say but I can't say I agree with this being an easily reversible fix. For an experienced modder perhaps but for the average person if they fuck this up..well..MS is gunna be selling more 360's heh.

this is a fix for the older hitachi 046/047 DVD units which they should have tested before launch 'cause they were already available at that time.

i am pretty sure they were aware of this problem upfront but they declined it. otherwise they would not have been able to promote/hype it as the ultimate solderless solution.

team xecuter was once a great team. but since the almighty xecuter3 nothing but useless shit has been released by them. remember those old days in which they refered to theirselfs as 'teamx - we are hackers etc etc'

well since their latest value-adding product (x3) following has been promised or released:

> PSP mass storage device (they faced the 4gb limit at the time so they decided to stop the project ;-)
> the iced cube case for NGC (well it was a great case, but in the end its just a case)
> xecuter blaster360 (the ultimate solderfree solution which needs a quick solder & cut fix ;-)

however credits have to go to the initial xecuter team because they released some great chips/bios. but nowadays its more "team douch bags" trying to slam all money out of our pockets. sad but true.

pride comes before the fall

Couldn't we just solder some cheap 10nf caps on there, ones that have legs? That would probably have been cheaper/easier than having another little pcb...

Caps are used to stabilize voltage, so the problem was there wasn't enough power when the drive needed it?

That's a concern I have.. now we have people soldering where they shouldn't have needed to.

I do like the Free aspect.. but I'm also concerned.. as free is great for the PCB, and FREE to the guys who distro it.. that's cool too. But who will be paying to ship it? it'll cost little.. but still.. any shop that I bought a blaster from.. will they suck up the cost of shipping and ship to me for free? I dunno about that. for the sake of those that bought this device, i'd hope so.. but that hardly seems fair for the shops that were duped.

Given the continuous delays we had to endure for the sake of the "quality" control that went into the blaster, it does suck that now additional soldering will now be necessary to make this product work properly. (on that particular device.) Are all the shops that still stock the buggered version of this Blaster.. going to update their sales text to include "this device does NOT work on all drives, unless you solder this extra part.."

Doubt that too.

When can we see versions of the blaster that won't require a "fix" pcb?

Just when they think they have all the answers.. I changes the questions.. smile.gif
