Well iPrep isnt working for me (states "Failed to Prepare Destination" when clicking "Do It" to my floppy) so Id like to know if its possible? Can I just do it manually with copying and pasting my key in the iXtreme firmware or do I need iPrep?

I didnt use iprep, however using the old hex editing method isnt necessary. The 1.2 package comes with samtool which creates your hacked firmware. Extract the fw package to a folder, and place your orig.bin or you can dump your allready hacked drive and rename the dump orig.bin (as long as the orig.bin has your key your ok) and put it in the same folder. Run the bat file and it creates your extreme 1.2 fw with your key inserted. Then just flash as you would normally.

I dont know how I didnt see that...thanks. I used this on the last 5.3...must be blind

I have another question though. It states "Original Firmware = ms25", "iXtreme Firmware = ms28", do you want to spoof? What do I do here? The other times that I did this (with Xtreme 5.3) it never stated this. Do I spoof or not? Also, does it matter?

Yes, it does matter. If you original drive is ms25, then follow the directions to keep it that way and spoof it as ms25 (even though you really aren't). I then renamed the output file and manually copied it over to my flash drive that already had iPrep installed. That way I make sure that my key is already in there and it overwrites the original ixtreme file. I have a ms25 drive and this is my way of making sure that it stays a ms25 drive... or maybe I'm just paranoid of the E66 error...

I always use the old school method and I even hex the drive type in the xtreme fw to make sure its done right. Hexing is the way to go. Using auto-tools, its bound to mess up something eventually.

Why don't you use a usb stick with Iprep? It works fine.

With iPrep you don't have to hex edit it. It is all good.

You can edit your key with Firmware toolbox 3.xx That works also fine.

So, use iPrep to make a boot usb stick. After that, edit your ixtreme.bin file on the usb stick with firmware toolbox to set your key and to spoof to ms-25 (if you have a ms-25)

Enjoy!

That works for you because you know what you are doing and it is easier for you. For most, using tools is much easier and safer.

I dont agree that they're bound to mess up something eventually. IMO, there is a lot more potential for you to enter an incorrect byte in your key or in your version strings.

Its happened before. What are you disagreeing with? Fact and logic?

For the most part auto flashers are pretty safe but what he is saying is why leave it up to someone else?

There is an old saying "if you want something done right, do it yourself". Thats what he meant.

I'll NEVER use an auto flasher. wink.gif

I would by no means call what we are discussing an 'auto-flasher'.

Copying your drive key and version (if required) from an original firmware to a hacked firmware is an easily repeatable process. With the correct code, it is very easy to ensure that this process is done accurately. If the user does not have the proper knowledge to hex in their key and version (if required), they're much better to use these methods.

If you know what you're doing, i would still use the available programs to create your firmware and then double check with a hex editor.
