Square-Enix's Wada: 360 And PS3 'Over-Engineered'
Posted by XanTium | June 12 14:48 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
A new interview with Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has seen the influential executive emphasis the importance of the handheld market, particularly the Nintendo DS and describe the Xbox 360 and PS3 as "mismatched" to emerging new demographics.

Speaking in a new article by the Financial Times, Wada suggested that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were poorly suited to the current market and that handheld consoles would continue to dominate sales this year, as the demographics of consumers fundamentally alters following the success of the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Wada also accused the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 of being over-engineered, saying; ""There are too many specs - and you also need a high-definition TV, a broadband connection and a deep knowledge of gaming - these consoles are mismatched to today's environment. In a year or two years they will fare better."

Wow, all I can comment now is: idiot.

It's not like you are required to use a broadband connection or a HDTV. That would mean the xbox 1 is still to advanced for this guy. I got news, It's time to step out of the cave and see the new technology. Besides you don't deep knowledge of gaming, press the damn big button and you turn the xbox 360 on, click play game and it plays the game. This must be to far ahead of his time.

Go and play your N64~!

Not only that he's saying the consoles will do better a year from now... well, when you design, market, and produce a console, you don't want it obsolete from day 1. I think he's essentially (and accidentally) complimenting MS.

Wow, talk about speaking out your ass. He obviously knows nothing about these systems.

Sad thing is the general public who hear this "news" might consider his words to be true.

On the other hand, aren't the Japanese supposed to be on the cutting edge of technology with all these innovations and stuff? He seems stuck in the mid 90s.

I don't understand the urge of portable gaming. Sure I had a gameboy when I was younger but now if I want to game I'd rather be all nice and comfortable in my living room not on the go.

Guess for me music and movies are for traveling, while gaming is for sitting around in mine or a friends house.

Companies like MS and Sony need to produce over-engineered systems in order to stay competitive with the pc market and the rest of the console market. If anything, I think the consoles were under-engineered. They spent a lot of time developing graphics and security, however they didn't spend as much time developing a stable, low-cost and efficient system.

Sounds like he's overly impressed with Nintendo's latest offerings and is just doing an after the fact analysis. I wonder if he would have made this revelation BEFORE the success of the Wii and DS.

Xbox 360 ships with standard def cables along with high-def cables, PS3 ships with standard cables only and no high def cables. If you needed a High Definition TV then you wouldn't be able to use the product out of the box.

A broadband connection is only required for downloadable content, most patches end up on the game disks themselves and on magazine disks. You can ask people on these very forums, there are some people that don't even have the Internet in there homes and they have a 360.

I'm sure there are many 12 year old's and maybe younger that have a PS3 and 360 when they should be really doing there homework wink.gif .
