I was curious if pvpgn or bnetd would run well on the linux on an xbox. It would be pretty cool to have your own personal bnet server without having to have an extra computer on. I've tried connecting to battle.icequake.net but i cant seem to connect with my friends. anyway would the xbox's 64mb of memory and 700ish processor handle it? thanks

it'll do maybe one or two Diablo 2 rooms, but dont expect to get any real performance out of it. you could cluster a bunch of em together, but that would just be silly, be better off getting yourself a ~2.0ghz 2gb ram linux box and using that. besides, you'll still need a windows box for the frontend. (if you're using PvPgn & Bnetd) it's a 2 part thing, you need both. PvPgn is a windows app that controls the frontend (Chatroom, Matchmaking etc), and Bnetd is the backend, (the actual server you play on) and runs in linux.

Xbox linux isn't really useful for anything , unless your using xDSL for a webserver or something, i've found it to be more for the "Look what i can do" factor. Then again that was back when Xebian and Gentoox were the main ones, might have changed since then, i dunno.

do you think the performance would be the same for warcraft 2 or starcraft. I wansn't very specific about the games sorry. There will be a max of 6 players playing.

Anything is possible, Just dont expect any miracles out of it, give it a shot anyway.
You'll still need pvpgm running on a windows box and have it linked to the bnetd in linux.

Try asking on the DSL forums. They have more info and some know a bit about the xbox dsl.

I use xbox Linux everyday as a PC now. As I only browse the net and use MSN/IRC and AIM it does what I need.

It is not slow at all... The only problem I have is no FLASH but for YouTube and things I just reboot and use XBMC scripts.

Id say if you use XDSL and do not expect to do loads then its fine.

I have seen some people use there xbox as a game server. I dont know how but I know it was using xdsl. Might not have been for the games you want though.
