Microsoft sues Immersion for contract breach
Posted by XanTium | June 18 18:07 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamespot.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft said on Monday that it has filed suit against Immersion, a company whose technology adds tactile feedback to joysticks and other controllers.

Immersion had originally sued Microsoft, along with Sony, back in 2002, but the two companies reached a settlement in 2003. Under that deal Microsoft agreed to pay Immersion $26 million for licensing rights and for a stake in the company. However, Microsoft said Monday that Immersion has not lived up to other terms of that deal, including a provision that requires Immersion to pay Microsoft "based on certain business and IP licensing arrangements."

M$ is really showing their genius on this move. I remember how awesome I thought they were for buying a 10% take in the company that was suing them and Sony and now they are suing the company they own 10% of. Hopefully for M$, they can pick up an even larger share of Immersion with a successful lawsuit.

my not so confidential source (Immersion filings) says Immersion agreed to pay Microsoft if they settled the suit with Sony

I've posted about it before: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p...p;postcount=301

This is a great move when you think about it in more depth.
Right so Microsoft sues Immersion gets more percent of the company.

Now more to the point if that happens who do sony have to go to. To develop rumble technology into there controllers.

Thats right Immersion and thus sony would have to indirectly pay Microsoft!
They could of course block sony from doing so at all but that wouldn't be a good business move.

It's nice to see Immersion get a taste of their own medicine. Every company out there that has been sued by Immersion in the past should be laughing right now.

This truly is brilliant. I normally get angry reading all of these litigation news clips, but this one brought a smile to my face.

Makes me wonder how far ahead they planned this. IE: "Immersion is suing us and sony? Awesome!" *settles+gets share of company*

I know that I know nothing about the details of this case, but still, the concept of exacting revenge on a company that's abusing patents makes me all giddy inside.

Immersion deserves to be sued, no one should be able to patent such simple technology, that anyone could think of.

It would be interesting to know exactly what IP they are suing for? Just what IP has microsoft shared with immersion etc, would put a better spin on this story or possibly kill it if its something mundane.

They developed that specific rumble Tech. I am surprised that so many people hate them. Their technology IS actually used and their patent was breached.
