Duplicolor Options

ok, i am very familiar with painting, i airbrush and what not...

but i havent worked with plastic much. If i use duplicolor i know i need a base and clear but is primer needed?

i mean all it does is help the paint to stick better. if you sand the surface then there will be a higher surface area and thus mor surface for the paint to stick to resulting in it sticking better

All the greats use primer.

Hozy for instance- his tutorial

G0t m4xx21- I know for a fact he uses a primer.

I'm sure grim_d uses primer.

I'm sure GSX uses primer (..speaking of him..I haven't seen him on here for a while O_O)

I'm just saying...I recommend it.

ya, if you got extra cash laying around, buy it. other than that when i used duplicolor i didn't use a primer. however it will need a good sanding though

600 grit is alrite, but if you plan to sand between coats (which you should), your going to need higher grit, soemthin like 1200, 1500.

hmmm didn't know that grit 1200, 1500 existed! (local shop has grit 200>800)

But if you use a primer on your case/faceplate and let it dry, do I have to sandpaper(grit?) it? Or is it not nescecary?

I'm in the same boat as you. I want to use duplicolor metal speck paint on my new xbox, and i wanted to know if i have to sand inbetween coats and/or use primer. If I do have to use primer, I dont know what color I should buy since I'm using metal speck paint.

ok, the primer is used to help later coats stick and bond together 'better' than if there was no primer. if your planning to paint a dark colour, get a white primer, usually works best. HOWEVER, sanding in between coats gives you the best outcome, using the primer isn't a substitute. Since you will be painting several layers (or you should be), you will need to sand between layers to help the next layer better bond with the previous layer.

to find higher grit paper, go to a paint store, they usually have higher grit sandpaper.
