PS3, 360 offer 'much the same' opportunities, says Sega Rally dev
Posted by XanTium | June 21 15:03 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 afford developers "pretty much the same" opportunities at the moment, according to Sega Racing Studio boss Guy Wilday.

"Sony always create very technically innovative hardware and always have. PlayStation 3 is no different in that respect," Wilday told GamesIndustry.biz in an exclusive interview published today.
But Xbox 360 development is "simpler", according to the veteran developer, whose previous experience includes stints on Codemasters' Colin McRae Rally series.

"The flipside of very innovative hardware is that it takes you a while to get up to speed with it. The learning curve is steeper in that you have to get into it and understand exactly what the benefits are, and understand exactly how to do certain things to get the most out of the platform," Wilday says of PlayStation 3.
"With Xbox 360 obviously development is simpler. The development tools and support you have are obviously excellent. So that really is the trade-off."

So basically, the 360 is the "Mac" of the console world, and the PS3 is the "Linux".
Meanwhile, the Wii is the "Windows" of the console world, leading the pack.

By saying its the same means to me, if it aint broke dont fix it. Which means that 360 is perfect and PS3 couldnt do better, which means that 360 is the best. Best in terms of games, best in terms of dash/xmb, best in terms of friendmaking, best in terms of game licenses/exclusives. I mean why wouldnt this be the case, it was proven just the other day when the father of the PSone was fired from his post.

^ XBox360 is the best right now, because it's easy.
But XBox360 is also at his limit, while PS3 is less attractive but have more power, power that will come when developers climb the learning curve.
Developers will climb that curve and then... you know.

Yer it will be like Ridge racer 6 for the 360, ps3 got RR7...
Ps3 will get Ace combat 7 and it will look better, the Dev even said that its releasing for the 360 only cause of its situation rite now (larger market, easy to develop for)...

^Don't think you know what you're talking about....

But what I don't get is that graphics come from the GPU. Its widely agreed that the 360 either has just as good of a gpu as the ps3 or better than the ps3. So what if you have a Cell processor? We havent reached the limit of the 3 core in the 360. All I am saying is I don't think we'll see either system leading the pack in terms of graphics. Each system will have their standout games, but for the most part we won't be seeing big differences.

You have reached the GDDR3 bandwidth limit.
GDDR3 gives a certain bandwidth, the more XENOS uses, the less XENON has to do his work, it's the UMA drawback.
Cell has two memory pools, so GDDR3 is "RSX only", XDR is "Cell only" (but RSX can stream data from XDR) and SPE are working on local memories... and with only 1 Mb cache shared between 3 general purpose cores that's an harsh limit.

I've never read anything that was so much bull, and that made no sense. Considering that the 360 has the largest library of software of the three. sleep.gif
