iXtreme firmware 1.2b for TS-H943 Xbox 360
Posted by Iriez | June 30 19:56 EST | News Category: Xbox360

A new firmware for the Toshiba-Samsung h943 xbox360 drive..
Features
(v1.2b) Slow-read (4x) version
This version is for users who may have lesser quality lasers that have issues reading media. It offers nothing more than a slow-read.

Regarding iXtreme for hitahi: Soon :) We are currently testing, and everything seems smooth. The hitachi ixtreme will still need to be ported over to each specific version (v32-79), so that will take a little time, but most of the hard work is over.

Wow this is great! I can finally play again with quietness without the drive making a huge amount of noise.

Does anyone know if this applies to just backups being read in slow mode.

Also is this as safe as the normal iXtreme v1.2 which reads all discs at full speed? I thought many people said it couldnt be done anymore due to the timings etc.

Indeed. Anyone "in the know" care to comment?

noise = good bit quieter
loading = slower (4x compared to 12x is a big difference)

I think what was being timed and banned was the DVD security sectors.

A number of things can cause a disk to read out too SLOWLY.

Only one thing can read too FAST. "Disk" info read from the firmware, instead of the disk.

Earlier firmware would replace a backup's ss, if the backup's version was shitty or nonexistant. This info, written into the firmware, would read FASTER than the security sectors on an actual DVD.

I believe that's what I read, and it makes a lot of sense.

c/r timings and read-speeds are two different things. The first is important(and taken care of), and the second should be a pretty unreliable detection method. We have no fear at the moment that slowing read speed could lead to any type of detection.

I asked c4eva if he thinks his 1.2b slow read firmware is as safe as his 1.2 full speed firmware. He said yes.

Very nice, will put this on later.... I was already so used to the quietness of my drive before I upgraded to iXtreme, and now the noise really starts to annoy me. Especially since I went back from the spare Hitachi + GaryOPA to the original Samsung + iXtreme, the Hitachi was quieter overall, even without the slow read mode. Is there any indication that it will still be possible to safely go back to my spare Hitachi drive + iXtreme when the Hitachi version is done? IE: is spoofing the drive ID still considered 'safe'? I have a post 06-2006 box which originally had a Samsung drive, so I cannot just swap it, but I actually preferred the Hitachi drive over the original sammy.

Regarding the DVD power and E64 error: I seriously doubt this is actually logged and used for Live! bans. I know for a fact that I *always* flashed with the drive powered by the 360 (which is like 5 times). I flashed to iXtreme *before* I applied the fall & spring updates (had the box offline for a year or so), and it still happily logs on to live without any problems. So I think it's safe to say that at least the pre-fall & spring updates do not log E64. I'd say it's a pretty stupid way to detect flashed drives anyway, if it's so easy to work around and can falsely identify so many boxes that have been repaired/refurbished by 3rd parties, loose connections, people who modded their case etc. Is the E64 speculation backed by any facts?

QUOTE(MythiK @ Jul 1 2007, 02:39 PM) *

Does somebody know more? To my mind it's strange that such a big difference from the original firmware can't be detect one day or one other when MS would like to do it...

Some snippets from IRC about the slow speed:

<c4eva> iXtreme 1.2b for samsung will also be out later on tonight, - All backups read at slow speed/originals unaffected
<@|X|nWo|X|> (c4eva) iXtreme 1.2b for samsung will also be out later on tonight, - All backups read at slow speed/originals unaffected
<@|X|nWo|X|> why slow speed?
<c4eva> quiet and shitty media
<c4eva> read speed code even for original fw has slow down speed in it, so cant check for it

plse everyone, there is enough warning on this, stop the useless non technical post:
"OOOHH cant wait for the Hitachi"

or asking the same question 20 times like
"is 4x reading safe?" the question was asked then about 20 others asked again?? and when it was answered by Iriez and others, then one came saying can some one confirm!!!! blink.gif Plse, if you are so damn afraid, dont use it and stay at 12x, that is it. Obviously that is unless you bring a technical issue that was not considered.
