I got a 360 console i bought with a error 1001, the guy said it stopped reading games and he somehow bricked it. I can get it to be recognized when flashing with NTFS CD (asks you to select 1,2 or 3 - my sata card is listed as 3), but when it reads the orig firmware its check sum is all zeros. Then when i try to use that firmware it will not create hacked firmware from it. Says its not a valid orig.bin with the ixtreme 1.2 bat file.

When i insert a drive i had laying around the error goes away but it wont play games, only movies. Is that because i haven't inserted the drive key into the firmware for that drive? I didn't think it would work at all with out the drive key insert but it played movies. I get the insert a 360 disc screen when i put in any game.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Samsung MS25 Drive

Yes you would need the key of that console, (which seems to be lost sad.gif ).

Nothing to do without the key

Why did u move this? I was trying to see if anyone could help me extract the key from the drive. Or if there were any ideas or suggestions. Doesn't that fall into the category of "Technical DVD-ROM and Modified DVD Firmware"? I wouldn't think newbie chat would be were this needs to be...

I know how to remove the key and orig firmware from a normal drive. But this one is weird, its not bricked like alot of other people, who couldn't get it to be recognized. This one is fully recognized and pretends to read the firmware but gives a 0000 checksum. I have never read of another person with this same problem. Thats why i posted it. If you can find something in the pinned topics that has something of this nature, please... by all means send me a link!

you can extract the fw, open it with FWtoolbox and check the KEY if it is FFFF.. ,the guy who sold it to you overwrote the key and unless he has a copy of original FW, nothing to be done.

last thing to check is open the fw with an HEX editor

taken from a document by caster (i need to find the url): starting at position 4000 you can find the key after the following
QUOTE
Your screen should look like it does above. Notice the repeating
pattern, 01 11 11 11 11, then 16 bytes of FF, then 02 EE EE EE
EE, then 3 bytes BB, 13 bytes of FF, then 03 11 11 11 11, then
16 bytes of FF. After the four bytes of ‘11’ or ‘EE’ is a potential
key location. After your key is listed, it will be followed by
FF’s until offset $5FFF. This is very important – if your
firmware varies from the above you must put it after the last
place holder.

basically if there is only FF after the last series of 4 pair of 1 or E, then there is no key in that firmware.
hope it helps, but feel there is simply no key in it

firmware toolbox says its not a valid firmware image

Hex editor has nothing but F's on every line.

Also when i tried to read it using the NTFS CD it says MK DIR Failed, then it asked me to choose the device and it appears as number 3, i choose it, then it runs from 0-100% a couple times and finally says it has created an original and hacked version of the firmware. Then i end up with the resulting orig.bin

Sounds like the fw is hosed or you got a bad dump.
