Why in gods name would u want to solder your 360??? (sounds TOO risky!) I am in no way understanding the purpose or advantage of this method.
I'm still waiting for MS to find a solution for ALL FW modifications via a Live update. (assuming if u get online with ur console that is) Just seems like it can be fixed FOR GOOD if they try hard enough.
Don't get me wrong, i pray they dont. But FW mods just doesnt seem like its gonna last foreva. I've said that since day one. Thankfully the scene works twice as hard as the brains at MS.
As for the Globe 360... this seems pointless unless im just not understanding its full capabilities. (which i probably am, knowing me)
To answer your question, soldering isn't a very risky thing if you know how to do it. In this case, however, the Globe modchip is inferior to the current firmware mods (which is really all this is anyway. It has it's own firmware on the chip, and when the chip is activated, it uses THAT firmware).
As for MS finding a "solution" for the FW mods via XBL, I disagree, namely because they'd have to
1) Be absolutely positive you have modified firmware
2) Disable the firmguard, and then take the risk of bricking drives
3) Pray you don't just re-flash it
As it stands, the current firmware mods actually mimic the original firmware. It's not known, but is widely speculated that MS CANNOT determine if you have modified firmware by the firmware on the drive itself.
