How many times have I read articles saying that HD-DVD is done for? Seems like the longer it goes on the more and more worried Sony gets. Sad that they are preying on the american public's ignorance by trying to say stuff to thwart them. At least Peter Moore shows once again that he is a classy guy, unlike the ps3 guys and fanboys.

Exactly. I know MS are no angels just like all the large companies out there. But I do think they are a much more decent company than Sony. I mean look out how Sony handled the PS2s problems(or more of how they didn't handle it) compared to how MS is handling the 360s problems. Not very many companies would have ever admitted a fault. Also not very many companies pay the shipping both ways. This is very good because shipping a product of that weight can get pricey $$$.

But MS hasn't handled all the 360 problems the dvd drives are crap and also have big issues but no help 3 year warranty on that.

I think MS saying about HD-DVD is pure cheek I don't see then pushing it what so ever so if it is successful its not down to there help.

MS doesn't really have anything riding on HD-DVDs success(I don't think). They are just supporters. As you can see MS just basically said "see Toshiba," because it is not really their product to defend.

As far as the DVD drives go they will get better. I don't really have any problems with the current ones though personally. Granted they are a little noisy, but I have a 1000W surround sound so I don't even notice it.

Well, I'm sure HD-DVD is going stronger... in a place near my home... but not here since I saw no HD-DVD to date (and I live in EU).
HD-DVD is dying, that product relies only on Universal and either Universal could go for BD now that AACS is exploited since the only working DRM out there is BD+.
Latest "hey, HD-DVD is winning in Europe" smells of bullshit, they just kept PS3 out of the BD reader list, and you know that there's 1 mln PS3 in Europe and the PS3 is the cheapest BD reader out there.

So ok, HD-DVD is winning, like every inferior (inferior like 15 against 25 Gb) product just because the porn industry is going with HD-DVD... now, how many porn HD-DVD did you saw out there ?

Oh well, being on xbox-scene means being xbox fanboy all around, so Microsoft aka "the good company who works for free" cannot go wrong and XBox360 supported media are sure to go strong and win just because they are getting the XBox360 support.

Right... maybe you still own an Edsel.

I don't even care about blueray or hd-dvd, I have my 360 for gaming only and I don't plan on buying either of those players anytime soon. Not until I know what format is the winner, say3-4 years ahead.

HD DVD is far from dead. It's much too early in this format war to determine a winner. Blu-Ray and HD DVD both have some big studios in their pockets, and big enough titles to sway consumers either way. Only time will tell.

FWIW, I don't know a single person with a Blu-Ray player, aside from one friend with a dusty PS3.... but I know a good dozen people with HDDVD players.

I can understand corporations going head to head and not getting along with each other. I can also understand both camps needing to make statements that back the format they have chosen.
I can't understand members of the public who are supposedly fans of consoles/gaming/movies slinging childish little comments at each other over the fact someone owns a different console system to the one they have, when they have nothing to gain. Surely everyone who buys the products is chasing the same thing.
Yes we would all like to have the particular format we have bought succeed otherwise it means purchasing more /different hardware, but I don,t feel the need to throw in some name calling like someone stole your sweets.
Sony may not be selling in numbers like it hoped, MS may not have had the best reliability but both machines will play a part in the format wars as both have that capability.
Until really cheap stand alone players come out the positions may not change with Blu-Ray infront at the moment. One thing certain price reductions on players need to happen quickly because as the 360 has proved, once you get a good head start on the competition it is a big task to catch up.

The figures show a different story to your personal experience but it is possible even the circle of friends that people have will eventually play its part. You know how it goes you buy something, one of your mates comes round sees it, loves it and buys the same product. That is why we tend to find our friends have pretty much the same stuff as we do.

The "Both have some big studios" means 1 (as ONE) for HD-DVD.
Universal is with HD-DVD, but HD-DVD is flawed since AACS was cracked down, so it's really difficoult for the HD-DVD camp to gain support.
This comes with the inferior size format and the nonexistant differences between the two when it comes to supported codecs and you're getting a better picture.
Toshiba carried out his HD-DVD format just to try to steal the next generation format, because loyalties are a huge source of money.
Sony carried out Blue Ray, and it's BETTER (as a 25Gb HD is better than a 15Gb HD) and more widely supported (Sony and Disney, for example, won't put anything on HD-DVD).

What's the point in backing HD-DVD ?
Just because it's XBox360 supported format ?
Hello there! Microsoft choose HD-DVD instead of BD just to impede Sony and because BD is using Java (SUN Java, something Microsoft HATE) internally.
Does one of those two "reasons" mean anything to you ?

HD-DVD has a good chance, but I think £130 for a DRIVE is a bit to much.

MS need to officially bring the RRP down in the UK.

I'd be happy to put that money to a more featured player it would be worth more.

But I like the fact that you can plug it into a PC and play it, unlike Blu-Ray in the PS3.

no one should realistically think that just because the disc was built to hold slightly more data that should automatically mean it will have better video/audio/etc.... the only thing it has..is more capacity... big deal !
so my 360 has a 20 gig drive in it... I dont care.... I'm not going to use all that space....
why does the ps3 need 60 or 80 gig drives? do their games need that much space devoted to them to run efficiently? once hd-dvd & blu-ray burners & media become cheaper..... someone will find a way to translate films from one format to the other by some simple conversion tool the same way we can encode a dvd to xvid or to wmv to play in our 360s... hell, people are already ripping both HD standards to wmv to play.... I dont see hope being lost yet for hd-dvd

what i dont understand is why we need more capacity for movies i mean the quality is fine already and what are they gona use all that extra space for oh yes more useless and rubbish extras BORING i will be sticking with DVD until they stop making them
