What the hell happened to E3?
Posted by XanTium | July 14 00:13 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From engadget.com:
[QUOTE]
Dear ESA,
We've been down in SoCal for E3 since Tuesday, and now that the show is all closed up and the 3,000 industry pros and journalists invited to attend are heading home, we can only ask ourselves one thing: what the hell happened to E3? We knew full well coming into this thing that the mammoth, gonzo interactive entertainment spectacle of years past may have been lost to the ages, but the hollow husk of a show you guys replaced it with is drab, depressing, and generally disorganized. In short, we're totally bummed.

So, they restrict attendance, and shut out fans? Umm...yea...i'd expect a "small" backlash from that.

Yeah I remember when they said E3 was done a while back. I guess it is E3 in name only. A bunch of boring suits on stage playing games and very badly, whoopty do.

It was nice when gaming was about creativity, fun, games, and gamers, not just profits. Now it's just how many consoles have sold and how many people our subscribing to the companies crap.

I think this years E3 was great.

Of course I wasn't there, but all the press conferences, video feeds on G4 tv, video clips available online show me that this years E3 was great.

I love how this article poster says it seemed disorganized this year. That may be true, but E3's of past have been highly disorganized and probably much more so than this years.

So E3 now you have:

No more common fans. That sucks for us, but less than 1% of fans ever got to go to the show, anyway. So big deal.

No more booth babes. Who cares now that fans can't go in. The industry suits that are allowed in don't care anyway since they're there strictly for business. Plus, they're just eye candy. I love women, too, but big deal.

Shorter duration. Again, not a big deal since fans can't get in now. E3's of past would always have those few days where nothing went on but people walking around playing games, anyway. Kind of a waste, really, so good riddens to the longer E3. It's not needed now.

Long live E3!

Even if you really think the past E3 "pwnz0r" the new E3, don't complain! Be glad we still have an E3! It's still a great event for big announcements, tons of info on new games, etc.!

I just love the live coverage on the marketplace. Best time of the year. New trailers, demos, free stuff sometimes. Its great. The one time of the year i can count on finding out more info about games.

Hope it continues!

E3 should have been like this right from the start, so developers dont have to rush development for the games at E3 and concentrate on the actual game launch.

This E3 was pretty crappy by comparison. You can tell even the devs werent so into it. No big bombs were dropped like previous E3s.

I'll be curious to see who's at the GenCon board game convention this August since E3 limited itself to a relative few people. There are over 200 booths set aside for electronic/video game people this year.

without any huge decisions or major changes in the gaming world, it would make the conference seem poor regardless of who showed up or what they had to show...
