Rumor: EB Games Australia Issues Total 360 Recall due Faulty HDD?
Posted by XanTium | July 15 17:35 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From kotaku.com:
[QUOTE]
EB Games Australia have issued a recall on their Xbox 360s. Not just their own personal display or demo units. Every single Premium Xbox 360 they had in-stock. Sources within the company have confirmed that two weeks ago (approx June 29) store managers were first asked by Head Office to test every unit in-stock for errors, but were then ordered last week to return their entire inventories of the console, as well as remove all 360 promotional material and dummy boxes from their stores. The recall is believed to be due to a faulty batch of HDDs, as it did not include Core units.

The guy here is fully vindicated http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=610089
I have also received a PM from someone at EB (No I can not reveal the source as the guy has asked not to) which confirms the stuff in the news article.

I wish we had the ability to use either 2.5 3.5 hard drives so we could use our own hard drives instead of the stock hard drives included(premium/elite). Hopefully once the 360 has been open for home brew completely, team xecuter will put out an extender for the 360 so we could use regular 3.5 sata hard drives with our 360's. imagine having a terabite + of storage as an xbox 360 hard drive, man the would be sweet, here's hoping for home brew soon

Just rang my local EB store in Queensland, Australia.

I asked if I had to return my 360 after I purchased it last year. He said it was only the recent 360 stock that had to be recalled.

Chancer, did anyone actually get back to you from EB or MS when you contacted them when we were talking about this a few weeks back? Interested to know whether they did the "duck and cover" routine or if they actually fessed up when you emailed them.

Does MS just not test their products? How do so many consoles leave the manufacturer with busted hard drives? Even the less-than-average gaming Jo' had his first xbox overheat on him (like launch systems) after a few hours a day of gameplay.

Nobody got back to me through e-mail from EB but a guy joined up here and sent me a PM on the details of a memo they had all had. At that point they had not been told to send all the stock back but they clearly did have major issues.
The guy supplied very precise detail but asked not to post it in depth or reveal it.
This is not BS. People who know me here from way back know I would not invent this. info.
