Halo 3 co-op heads offline

From computerandvideogames.com:
[QUOTE]
While a two-player co-op mode has been confirmed for Halo 3 (player two assumes the role of the Arbiter) it looks like it'll be available in LAN or split-screen only as Bungie struggles to get the mode running over Xbox Live.

In the latest issues of EGM, it's reported that online co-op isn't happening, yet. "We're not dumb," says Bungie's Frank O'Conner. "We know that people want it and we're trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That's a significant challenge. And there's lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore. If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won't."

Bungie didn't rule out that online co-op could become a possibility via downloadable content post release.

And I was looking forward to 4 player co-op... lol

The single best thing about gears was the online co-op. That's where almost all of my time with that game went.

It's hard to believe that Bungie could struggle so much to add online co-op when Epic was able to pull this off last year with Gears.
Not to mention the fact that Free Radical Design's "Haze" will sport 4 player online co-op....

Something tells me that Bungie is bluffing here....

For me it *could be* a potential deal killer. It may atleast cause me to not buy it right away. I've been very disappointed with the lack of co-op in these Next Gen games/platform. 2 player co op on Halo3 is weak, but only split screen/lan is almost unexcusable.

I'd rather have split screen co-op than anything else. The 360 has hardly ant co-op games, probably why i played Earth defense force as much as i did, *cringe.

I don't get it!

If the theoretical distance is the problem, where is than the difference to Splitscreen or LAN? People can lost them there also. Can't they?

Or does he meant the ping /latency?

As long as they don't comprise on campaign mode then I'm ok waiting for co-op. It's not a necessity imho.

why are we just hearing about this now just 60 days before release when they have been working on this friggin' game forever?

doesn't change my opinion on buying the game, but since anyone that i would actually want to play co-op with are out of state, XBL co-op is my only choice. obviously, i don't understand the technical issues with this problem, but it just seems very odd that Bungie can't figure it out...

isnt this why the 'rubberband' effect was created? shoot the llama forward and unload that section.

in any case, this is exactly why I have two 360's, for a situation just like this.
