How do I get the Key from my faulty Hitachi 0078fk drive if it does not read any discs because you need to have a disc in to dump the Firmware. Can anyone help please!??

I have got a brandnew Hitachi drive ready to replace with so just need to put key from the faulty drive onto new drive for it to work in the 360.

Someone please help!!!!

You have 3 options...

1. You can try and figure out why the drive will not spin up a disc, motor, laser, motor controller IC or something that can't be fixed, which means you are left with...

2. If the new drive is an identical v78 you can straight swap the FW chip.

3. Pull the FW chip and read it with an external programmer to get the key.

Is this drive flashed? or stock?

Its a stock drive,

The problem it has is that you put a disc in and it makes a weird sound and the disc will not spin up correctly just stop starts and then gives up. So far i have tried cleanin the lense and that is all. I have heard people talk about the magnet can cause this but am sure it is not that.

Anymore ideas based on this info??

If it's a grinding noise that's from the magnet coming out of the Spindle. You'd see it stuck to the top part of the spindle that's in the lid if this were the case.
