Microsoft PR Team about June 2007 Monthly NPD Report
Posted by XanTium | July 25 13:44 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamerscoreblog.com (FYI: MS owned blog):
[QUOTE]
This Monday, Games Critics awarded Xbox 360 38 nominations for the 2007 Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 - 17 more than last year - compared to 29 for Playstation 3 and 14 for Wii. This makes Xbox 360 the most nominated platform with 38 nominations overall. Microsoft Game Studios also tallied an impressive number of nominations with eight in total. As we said at E3, this business is all about the games, and this is yet further proof that Xbox 360 has the best lineup, hands down.

Our lead in worldwide install base continues to grow, with more than 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles sold across 37 countries, the largest install base of any next-gen console. This June 2007, we sold 197K Xbox 360 consoles - 40,000 units more than we sold last month.

According to NPD, three of the top 10 games in June were Xbox 360 games or exclusives, including "Forza Motorsport 2" (MGS), "Guitar Hero II" (Activision) and "The Darkness" (2K Games). This marks 22 appearances for third-party titles on Xbox 360 to break the monthly top 10 best-selling games list in the past 9 months. Third party games continue to thrive with half of all retail spending taking place on Xbox 360.

Month over month, consumers' commitment to Xbox 360 continues, with record-breaking attach rates of 6.1 games and 3.2 accessories sold per console. Since launch, we've sold 20.1 million games, more than our next-gen competitors combined.

Wii is looking to surpass XBox 360's install base by the end of August, maybe September. Still, as Nintendo says, they're not in direct competition with PS3 and 360, so MS can be happy that PS3 is selling like ice to an Eskimo.

The Wii may be catching up in console sales, but it's gonna be a while before it catches up in games sales, especially this holiday season. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, GTA IV, and Rock Band. What does the Wii have? Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy.

Software sales are way up there, this is the important figure for publishers.

Pretty good for a 2yr old console

I can only see Microsoft continuing to sell consoles at a faster rate - I mean who WOULDN'T buy a Next-Gen console with a 3 year warranty??? Microsoft isn't the only one with a bad track record on this - anyone want to comment on Sony's PS2 laser issues??? I think the warranty period may be what sways alot of consumers.

I agree, Nintendo isnt interested in being #1, they know where they are, and for what they've made they've exceeded most ppls expectations, its a simple console with limited functionality, given it has the ability to amuse the average gamer for maybe a month or 2, but all there games are identical almost.

and there lack of games will kill it in the long run unless they up there selection.

as for north america...i hardly see Sony making any threat to MS, there safe in NA, the other areas, Europe/China/Asia MS is doing rather well with there *adaption* and i see them eventually breaking thru eventually.

360 is a good system, yes it has its issues, every system has...yes MS screwed up along the way but with recent warranty increases and there further looking into better hardware for the 360 i feel there doing there part..

sony is wounded and scared, there holding onto there PS2 empire by a firm thread...

Wii is in a completly different category all its own they arent worried about either MS or PS3!

that last quote confused me..."Since launch, we've sold 20.1 million games, more than our next-gen competitors combined." are they trying to state it has sold 20.1 million more games, or 20.1 million games, more than our next-gen competitors combined?? notice the comma's

How does 11.6 million consoles with 20.1 million games equal an attach rate of 6.1 games? Isn't it more like almost 2 games?
