More Sources Confirm August 8th Price Drop - 50usd?
Posted by XanTium | July 26 00:08 EST | News Category: Xbox360

The news we broke yesterday about an Xbox 360 price drop on August 8th seems to have woken up some other sources in the industry.
From hollywoodreporter.com:
[QUOTE]
In an effort to regain momentum in the video game console market, Microsoft Corp. will cut the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 early next month, sources said.
The reduction will be made Aug. 8, according to one source in the retail world.

Still unclear is whether the cut will be made to all three versions of the Xbox 360 on the market. The Core model, which accounts for about 20% of Xbox 360 sales, retails for $299; the best-selling Pro model sells for $399, and the Elite model is about $479.

As for the Aug. 8 date, there is significance to the timing. Not only will Electronic Arts' "Madden NFL 08" be reaching stores shelves just a few days after the drop, but Microsoft also has several other highly touted games, including "BioShock" by publisher Irrational Games and "John Woo Presents Stranglehold" from Tiger Hill Entertainment, coming for the Xbox 360 in August.

i just wish the price drop is 199 as peter moore had kind of hinted instead of 50 dollar price drop. a hundred dollar price drop is always nicer biggrin.gif

$200 is the sweet spot. Imagine the power a price cut like that would have.

$50 is not enough, PS3 is selling like crazy because of their price drop (or fire sale)

they need to hit $199, $299, & $399 for the 3 systems

They also need to drop the price of the HD-DVD addon to $99

$50 price drop is fine....of course $100 price drop would be better but would you rather a price drop or not? and who cares about the ps3...they just received a small boom in sales ...the hype surrounding the short ps3 price drop will die soon as ppl realized that there's still no games worth playing on it yet thats not on the xbox 360...

I do hope they lower more than 50$, if MS wants to keep the lead over the PS3 they should drop the price much more than that.

Personally the price drop doesn't mean crap to me since I already own my Xbox 360 and adding more 12 year olds to XBL will just destroy its appeal even faster. SO I would prefer no price drop. I think you need to adjust your wording there a bit. People will now realize they can get most of the good games that are on the Xbox 360 for their PS3 that look and run smoother on the PS3 as well as being able play online for free and watch Blu Ray with out an additional purchase. Did I mention 3 times the harddrive space, wi-fi and hdmi built in. That sounds like a pretty damn good deal for another $100 to me. But its only my opinion.

Well, first of all, the 360 has many big exclusive titles that you won't even see on the PS3 like Halo3, Mass Effect, Bioshock and so on. Theese games will still draw people to get a 360. And regarding "look and run smoother on PS3" I haven't seen any evidence on that sofar. Those game comparisons I've seen (The Darkness for example) didn't show any huge differences and neither have other comparisons I've read (remember fight night where the 306 looked much better than PS3?).

QUOTE

... as well as being able play online for free ...

Being able to play online for free isn't really something to brag about when there is no good games to play online on the PS3! It might change in the future, but for now that argument is really nothing.

...and watch Blu Ray with out an additional purchase.

And how many blue ray movies do you/common people own? I have a friend that said it was cool to have a blue ray player at home and when I asked him if how many movies he had he just laughed (hint: 0). Right now there isn't many blue ray movies at all you can get. I wouldn't pay alot for blue ray when I can hardly use it.

QUOTE

Did I mention 3 times the harddrive space...

My 360 has 20gb and I have never been out of space and I do download many gamedemos and trailers. Why should I need 80 or more GB of hdd space?!

Yes, wifi is good and should have been integrated with the 360 so that's one thing the PS3 is better. You can get HDMI with a 360 Elite and still pay less than a PS3, so that argument isn't viable.

We all knew this would coincide with a PS3 price drop, at least no analyst is involved cause there annoying as hell.

I just hope it means 65NM, and when the Elite launched here it's cheaper.

HD-DVD drive also needs to be dropped to about £90 if they want it a success, it's been at £130 for a long time now.

You can get it for £99.99 at Play.com. I'm not bothered about the price of the HD DVD player, I think it's a good price; its the movies I have a problem with. There are hardly any available. I think Play.com currently has about 80 for sale whereas Blu Ray has so many more (something like 200) that I would love to see in HD. Time Microsoft did an external Blu Ray drive I think! Ha! Like thay would do it so soon..... if only.
