No 360 HD-DVD Price Cut for UK/EU yet
Posted by XanTium | July 27 19:16 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From xbox360.ign.com:
Overnight you may have read that from August 1 Americans are getting a $20 price cut and five free DVDs when they buy the HD-DVD add-on for Xbox 360. However it looks like the Brits are going to miss out for the time being, with Microsoft saying it has "no announcements" about a similar UK deal.
Together with the low current value of the USD this makes things even worse ... the new US price of 179.99USD converts to 132EUR/89GBP. The current price in Europe is 200EUR/130GBP. And that's not even considering the 5 free HD DVD movies US buyers get.

Perhaps because HD DVD is doing better in Europe against Blu-Ray... my impression is HD DVD is losing the battle in the US... so anything to get people a HD DVD player...

Why does someone always want to bring politics into the discussion?

This is about Microsoft (and every other major company) feeling the need to overcharge for everything game-related in the UK, or at least wanting to subsidise the US.

If you want this deal that much, import it. Both the HD-DVD addon and the movies are not region locked.

Keep an eye on the likes of DVDBoxOffice.com .....

I don't really care. The catalogue is smaller then Blu-Ray and major stores are now pulling out of HDD all the time (See PS3 section for which ones if you care)

I agree, this really sux! MS doesn't seem to care a tiny bit about Europe and that, frankly, makes me kind of pissed off.

While it annoys me alot that US can have contests with good prizes I can still understand they didn't do the same to EUR simply because of legal problems regarding taxes and stuff like that. But why are they not offering us the same content on Live!, I mean US gets things like free gamertags/demos and that can't be hard to give to all can it? And now this, EUR gets shafted again on MS own hardware (the HDVD player)! While I do love my 360 I'm starting to dislike MS as a company more and more.
