I went to change my dashboard from Evox to XBMC. But I screwed up. I removed Evoxdash.xbe from the C:Drive and I put XBMC on to the C: drive. But I didn't rename the default.xbe. It goes to the M$ Dashboard.
Now none of the Discs will load. I put my Evox disk in, and the Green X comes up and it sits there. When I eject it goes back to the M$ Dash. I put in Halo, and the Green X comes up and sits there. Now I'm not sure what to do. I think it has to do with the default.xbe in the C: Drive. Any Ideas or thoughts? What do I do now? |

If you can't load an original disc to access the backdoor your left with a few things.
1. If you have the eeprom you can just take the HDD out and rebuild it with XBOXHDM. 2. If you don't have the eeprom you will need to hotswap. 3. Install a modchip. You should be using a better softmod like Krayzies Ndure v1.1 (+v1.1.1) anyway (old and crappy softmods use C for their dash booting path, newer softmods do not). |

This Xbox already has the Xecuter 2.2 Mod Chip installed in it. But again, nothing will load from Disc, everything stops at the Green X. What suggestions should I do since I have a mod chip installed? Meanwhile I will look up your other 2 suggestions. Thanks! |

Ah, sorry, since it wouldn't load an EvoX disc I assumed it had to be a softmod. Not really sure why it won't load the disc as your chip is booting a modded bios (which is supposed to boot a disc always).
You should not need to use hotswapping/XBOXHDM either way though since you have a chip. Not really sure what to tell you to get it to load a disc though. XBOXHDM would work to rebuild, but should not be needed since your chipped. |

So here's what I have tried. Because it is the Xecuter 2.3 Mod chip, it has an on off switch. I turned off the modchip and the system works like the original system. Goes to Xbox Dashboard. I put a game in, and the game loads.
Now I have a 007 Agent Under Fire disk and the Raincoat mod. so doing that mod, I am able to telnet and FTP to the hard drive. I tried to delete the files i put on (ie Default.xbe) however the system is "Read Only File System" I tried "chmod -r default.xbe" and I get the same "Read Only File System" I tried "rm default.xbe" (Using my limited Linux/Unix knowledge) however it does not delete the file. Any suggestions from here? otherwise I'm just updating my situation. I think since I can FTP, I'm going to pull off all my backed up games in the case I have to re-do the hard drive. My question is where are the save games? I'm half way through Marvel Alliance and I don't want to start over Thanks! |

1st- You obviously don't own the "backed-up" games, so I wouldn't bother wasting time to keep them.
2nd- The gamesaves+LIVE content+custom soundtracks are located in folders E:\UDATA and E:\TDATA 3rd- Since the xbox is chipped your HDD may be unlocked, meaning that your PC will be able to 'use' the HDD, and you can then rename things properly. Also, I couldn't tell by your post(s) if you say you CAN or CANT run a softmod... Now none of the Discs will load. I put my Evox disk in, and the Green X comes up and it sits there. When I eject it goes back to the M$ Dash. I put in Halo, and the Green X comes up and sits there. Now I have a 007 Agent Under Fire disk and the Raincoat mod. so doing that mod, I am able to telnet and FTP to the hard drive. This post has been edited by Illumi.Naughty: Aug 2 2007, 02:38 PM |

Thanks for the reply Illumi.Naughty.
My Xbox is Version 1.0. It CAN be softmodded, but with the chip in it. I did not soft mod it. Turning the mod chip off goes back to the original bios. I understand the concept of Unlocked vs Locked Hard drive. But since I never hooked the HD to the computer I'm not sure what it will do. IF the HD is UNLOCKED, should it just show up as another drive in Windows Explorer? IF the HD is LOCKED, it shouldn't show up at all? Confirm Please Thanks! |

What I would do if I were wearing your shoes is run a softmod installer, preferably Krayzie NDure (find it on #xbins) for whatever exploitable game you have and backup the xboxes EEPROM, dont install the softmod. Now FTP to your xbox and copy that eeprom file to your windows machine.
Find "XboxHDM" on #xbins and build an iso (the xboxhdm 'read me' will explain how). In the C folder you need XBMC. Make sure the xbe is named properly. Put your backed-up "eeprom.bin" in the folder named "eeprom" and build that iso. Put the Xboxes HDD in the PC set as the 'Primary Master'. The CD/DVD-ROM reader must be connected as the 'Secondary Master'. With the XboxHDM in the CD/DVD drive turn the PC on and follow the instructions to rebuild the C drive. After thats done put everything back together and all should be A-1. -Illumi.Naughty |

Alrighty I got it fixed.
I took another hard drive and plopped it in there. Did the formatting and set up of the Hard Drive and put Evox onto it. Then I'm thinking. Lets try flashing the Bios. I was running X2CL. So I flashed something "simpler", the M8 bios. I rebooted and put my Evox boot disk into it. and ABRA-CA-DABRA IT WORKS! So I quickly deleted the suspect files and put evox back onto the HD. Pull out the Boot Disk. Cross fingers. Reboot. It boots up and boots to the Evox on the HD. WHEW! So my problems were related to the X2CL bios. I did not set up the file correctly and/or config the ini file. Lesson: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! hahaha. Well I'm going to enjoy the it as it is for now. And also it's 1AM (pst) so I need to get to sleep! Thanks to Illumi.Naughty and cerealkillajme for giving me ideas. Kudos! |
