Microsoft: No UK Xbox 360 Price Cut
Posted by XanTium | August 1 11:34 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
While rumor has it that Microsoft is set to adjust its US 360 pricing strategy, a UK spokesperson today told Next-Gen that the company has no intention of reducing the price of the console on that side of the pond.

"We're very happy with where were at the moment and have no plans to make any changes at this time," was the official line.

O wow surpise surpise. The UK is getting ripped off again. I mean anyone who lives in the uk should have known this already. Getting price cuts inline with the usa hardly ever happens.

complete B$. not only did they bump up the price for us, but we don't get the price cut either. over here, the console should cost about AU$469 but we have to pay nearly AU$600

Well I suppose since the PS3 hasn't had a price drop here and is still way more expensive than a premium (and even the Elite) that M$ don't feel the need just yet. Also I don't think UK 360 sales are doing too bad at the moment so there's no real point in a price drop. Although I do think M$ are really missing a good chance to boost sales. Oh yeah and its really not fair that we have to pay even more for the same console.

Maybe we'll see a price drop just before Christmas instead?.

Just so you know state-side, this means that we pay around US$405 for a Core system and $570 for a Premium. Elites can be pre-ordered for $670.

Price source: Game

In comparison you'll be paying $280 for a Core, $350 for a Premium or $450 for an Elite.

Did not expect anything else from MS.

As usual EUROPE gets FUCKED.

Special Promos for the "old countries" - nope - just do it for the US - and let Europe pay for the "loss" in the US on those promos.

Sony does it with Japan/USA and Europe and so does MS.

Life's a bitch ph34r.gif

[Rant]
What about us blokes and sheilas in AU?

From what i remember the premium is still around $600 - $650 AU. Personally id love a price drop here but it seams that M$ hasn't got enough cash out of us yet to warrant a price drop.

It's plain simple bullshit. We've always paid more for games over the years. We've always paid more for poor quality conversions with massive borders at the top and bottom of the screen. We've always paid more for games that come out substantially later than in the US. It's bollocks, all the way.

The 360? Well it's been more expensive here since the start, even at the current US price. Now the US gets a price cut and that means we're paying an even bigger difference between our buddies across the pond. We should have had a price cut already, it's been 18 months... Microsoft has clearly got to find someway to recoup some money after this warranty business and since they probably view the US as their most important user base, they decide they'll make that money back by making us pay more. Fuck them, they should work out a business model that means both countries pay a similar price- it shouldn't be our problem/loss.

Here's the best bit:

Gamestation sell Shadowrun for the 360, pre-owned, for £31.99- which at the exchange rate at this exact moment is $64.96...... EBGames are selling it at $59.99 brand new. dry.gif

WOW, what a surprise, we got fucked over again.

M$'s strategy regarding these issues is total bull shit. End of story.

It can NOT be justified.

In a different thread I was complaining about the price difference between USA and Canada for the 360.

Since then I had a thought. Any person who thinks they are paying too much should just buy one off Ebay or any number of other online stores or sources. That way, you can get one from the region you want at a price similar to what is being charged in stores within that region (plus shipping obviously)

Of coarse, that also means you need to likely buy games from that region as well, but hell.... games are cheap on Ebay also as compared to the stores - even brand new ones. Oh - and you will also need a TV that supports either NTSC and/or PAL, but I think those are becoming more common to support both formats now.

Dunno - like it or lump it I guess.

(puts on fire retardant suit and ducks) muhaha.gif

I know what you mean. It's not so much of a problem nowadays because most PAL games run at 60hz and do convert well, but most previous consoles were a joke. I remember owning the Jap version of Tekken 3 for the PS1, it was fast, smooth and filled the whole screen. Then a friend of mine bought the U.K version when it was released and it was unplayable... The borders were the biggest thing on the screen and the characters felt like they were fighting in treacle. I've seen this happen on a LOT of PAL conversions on many consoles, yet we non U.S gamers get shafted by prices every time.

£149.99 is a demand for UK Core and £200 for the premium. I actually thought the prices where this, i mean! Cu'MON!

A drop just pre-Halo 3 is a must
