Bizarre: 'DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience'

[QUOTE]
As I'm sure you've seen, some of the comments made on our forum have been blown out of all proportion. This has been reported on certain web sites. It seems that a number of fanboys have jumped on the topic... sigh. So it's time we cleared this one up...

When we started designing PGR4 our primary goals were to create a great and unique experience over and above PGR3, to push the hardware as far as we could, and obviously to ensure that we give great value for money. DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games... and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.
We've never had to cut content to fit on the disc, and we probably never will.

Sounds like M$ might have influenced that response.

And I just read on the PS3 forums that the game, Lair, due out later this month is pushing 25gb in size.

That's nothing. Back in the Early days of SNES when games were 512k - 2MB a piece Sega CD had games that were 650mb!!!! Man those games were so awesome. \\

PS3 games use dummy data to help the consistent read speed of the blu-ray game disks.

What you hear about PS3 games sizes is rubbish or no compression used what so ever.

with proper coding anything is possible, I have forgot the link but this guy created a whole 3d shoot level with proper textures in 64K even with sound.

guess that employee of bizarre has now been let go laugh.gif

why would anyone even bring up issues about their own company or anyone benefiting their company

as far as DVD9 goes, once PC games are strictly hddvd or blu-ray than we can worry, until then heres to swapping disc when it becomes necessity on the 360

I hate the attitude that "bigger is always better". Sure in some cases it is true wink.gif , but just cause there is more space doesn't mean it will get filled with better quality. It could allow a step up in developing incredible games but I think at the moment it is development budgets and deadline/time frame issues that determine a games quality more so then the amount of space they have to work with. I think the reality is that a good developer can produce insane quality on dvd and a lazy developer could fill a whole blueray with a halfassed game. So enough already about storage size and locker room testosterone battles of who's bigger. of course larger storage for data is a necessity down the road but were safe this gen. Now nextgen that is a different story! huh.gif Can everyone say "terabyte drives".

That's pretty impressive!. I just downloaded and gave it a try. Goes to show you really don't need masses of space for a game. I think we should be fine with DVD9 this gen. Still, If the odd game further down the line requires 2 discs then whatever.

i dont know if bigger is better as people have said SNES games top out around 5mb if that and they where giving PSone games a run for there money

OR look at PSP vs DS

DS games atm are about 128mb (DS games can be GB's if they want its all to do with cost)
PSP ganes can have upto 1.8GB
Doesnt mean that the PSP is a better system or has better games

also having a 50gb of content on a disc how much does that cost to produce?

instead on spending hours on textures at low rez you now have to spend days making sure the detail is right its all well and good but where does these cost end and this is why we are getting the games that cost 60US 120AUS (hmmm Australian's get do ripped off $1AUS compareable to like $0.85USD whats going on game companys???)

you could also look at the same with the Wii as well not really what you call next gen fx but in 6weeks it would of outsold the Xbox 360 in just 9months on what the 360 took 21 months to do with the 360 being 3 times as powerful has the wii

people keep forgetting it not Size, FX, Sound these things can help a game but they dont define how good the game is or the fun factor of a game they just assist

The problem is 360 owners have got to get over the fact the 360 has got a DVD drive not a br/hd so we are stuck with that cap, on the other hand the ps3 has a BR drive not only dus it have a BR drive it uses BR media to play games so it isn't capped simple, you can argue all-day about what can be dune with DVDs doesn't matter.

that's a great analogy - i, too, see the discrepancy in the contradictory remarks coming from the same company - still i guess that we will have to wait and see

i always knew this was true... i was so tired of those sony fanboys claiming there blu-ray crap was superior to dvd9 stuff when i already knew dvd9 was already "good enough" for todays games and did not handicap the developers/games in any way.
