GameDaily BIZ Confirms Price Drop and GameStop Email
Posted by XanTium | August 2 11:25 EST | News Category: Xbox360
We already got our sources reporting as first about a price drop that would be announced in August, followed quickly by sources at hollywoodreporter and then flyers of wal-mart, toys r us and circuit city. Today more confirmation comes from 'high-level retail source' who talked to GameDaily BIZ and a note send out to GameStop stores that might be related to this price drop as well. There's a mix of August 8th and August 12th ... my best guess atm is that Microsoft will (internally?) announce the drop on the 8th and the actual drop with be the 12th.
From biz.gamedaily.com:
Following a posting of a Circuit City flyer by our friends at Joystiq, GameDaily BIZ spoke to a high-level retail source (not at Circuit City) who did indeed confirm that the prices in the Circuit City flyer were correct and that the price reduction will be retail wide. Effective August 12, the pro 20GB model will be slashed by $50 to $349.99. The elite 120GB SKU will receive a $30 cut bringing its price to $449.99 and the core SKU will get a price cut of just $20, making its MSRP $279.99.
We quickly dropped a line to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter to get his take on this price drop strategy. He said it "speaks volumes about the cost of production." Pachter believes that Microsoft is probably breakeven on the Pro SKU - he thinks the cost on the Pro is right around $325. He also thinks they make a little money on the Elite, but lose a little on the Core, which is why they only dropped it by $20.
We've heard of this email from a couple of tipsters who shall remain nameless, and now, through the magic of the internet, we're able to share it with you. The note, sent out on Tuesday to Gamestop stores, lets them know that they can expect marketing materials about an "upcoming announcement" from Microsoft that should be posted on Aug. 8. The sternly-worded missive also says that those that receive the "materials" early should not display them. Also, "DO NOT" is capitalized, so you know the person on the other end is through playing around, mister.
And according to engadget: In even better news, we've also gotten further confirmation that the Premium will be adding HDMI out sometime soon, which we wouldn't mind in the slightest.
I'm guessing those will be the falcon xbox 360's which makes it easier to find one with 65nm chips, just get the premium with the HDMI.

50 bucks off the pro is acully a normal price drop for a console look at your history its normaly always a 50$ drop every year. the 360 did skip a year but it also was a year early into this race. they normaly slash the price around christmas but both sony and m$ where early this year.
i say any drop is a good one. m$ didnt need to drop the price the ps3 is no thret to them its still priced higher and has a bad game lineup. and well nintendo is winning the race all on there own anyways. if wii sales dont slow down there gonna take the #1 spot not sony or m$.

This is exactly the same logic as capital punishment...
Is it better that nine guilty go free to save one innocent?
Or do you wrongly destroy one innocent to catch the nine? I'm glad that the Australian law makers and judiciary embrace a better version of human rights :-)
Does anyone know what the hell he's talking about? sounds like that shouldve been in the modchip raid threads.
