Hi there ive got some x box parts and am trying to get this mutant up and running. The problem i have is that the motherboard that i am using did not come with either of the drives i have. i currently have

1. fully working system without hard drive
2 hard drives ( both seem locked and are thin seagate ST310014A drives)

my question is has anyone been able to flash this drive yet and/or using the seagate tool been able to remove the password.

I read a topic in this forum about there being a seagate dos tool that can wipe the password activating the drive again. The thread ended with quite a few people still requesting a vorking version to wipe the pass off the ST310014A drive ( as this was not covered in the initial release).

so as far as i understand my only option right now is to install a mod chip.

is this right ?? i do not have the eeprom from the mobo so its my understanding that i cannot install a blank drive without either reading it from the mobo or modding the box?

if anyone knows of some other way to resolve this issue then id much appreciate the help if not then im lost as i can probably ready chipped box for the same price as a chip....

im trying to do this to create a media console that can play the odd xbox game. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Nope, you're stuck with either a chip or a reader at this point. That said, chips are cheap, even cheaper than buying the tools to do a gamesave exploit in many cases (some chips can be had for under $20).

Thanks for the reply corvillus i may end up making a reader but will keep an eye out for a cheap chip. id rather go solderless so i realise its a bit more expensive but who knows i may end up having a solder myself..

could you possibly answer another question for me. out of the 3 motherboards ive got ive used one that is different to the other 2 ( mainly because i think the other 2 are dead) . The main difference is the power connector which has 1 row of pins instead of the usual 2. Is this an import of some kind or a new version? im going to check the identity using the scenyx chip identification tutorial when i get a chance so that might answer my question.. just wondered....

thanks in advance.

Xbox Version: unk
360 version: unknown

if you have a usb daughterboard or have solder in the lpc debug holes you have a 1.0 and the 1.0 also has a extra mobo fan a small one not the larger back one on the xbox the 1.6 does not have the smaller fan. version 1.1-1.5 not sure if they have fan but they do not have a usb daughterboard. Also you should chip your box softmods can cause havoc if you move a hdd file from dash folder.
