Games for Windows LIVE not only for Vista, also for XP
Posted by XanTium | August 15 22:03 EST | News Category: Xbox360
From gamerscoreblog.com (FYI: MS owned blog): [QUOTE] When Cliffy B demoed Gears of War for Windows at E3 2007 to a throng of enthralled attendees, he let drop at the end of his presentation that Gears would be available for both Windows XP and Windows Vista this year. That caused no end of speculation, ranging from using GameSpy for online play in the Windows XP version to only allowing multiplayer in the Windows Vista version to force gamers to upgrade.
You should all breathe a sigh of relief and know that Games for Windows -- LIVE will work on Windows XP. When the development team was working on Games for Windows -- LIVE, they focused on a single platform to ship the first iteration of online play, and that platform was Windows Vista. Now that Halo 2 and Shadowrun are out and available, the team has been able to go back and finalize the work done to make sure Games for Windows -- LIVE works on Windows XP. Which means that not only Gears of War will connect to LIVE on Windows XP, but so will the other games we announced that will support Games for Windows -- LIVE, like Universe at War from SEGA (which, incidentally, will also enable cross-platform play between Xbox 360 and Windows PCs). so pc players and xbox players can play together? Wouldn't u think that the PC gamer would have a winning edge over the xbox gamer, simply because of the mouse?

PR lies. Those games were 'Vista only' to push Vista, not because they "needed to make sure" that games for windows worked on the XP platform.

I like my Vista setup but I am glad that XP has some support too.
IMO what publisher would want their game to be Vista only? That essentially kills a good percentage of your market. Supporting both is a good for both consumers and publishers.
*cough* But if you are looking to get Vista checkout your college(if your still in it) and see if they have a free copy for you. Mine gives Vista to CS majors which I am not. I bought mine through a Certified Academic Software store(Check here to see if it is certified http://www.microsoft.com/education/aerfind.aspx) and got Academic Vista Home Premium Upgrade for $70 + $10 to get 64bit DVD and installed as a clean full install using this method http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932. Academic software is exactly the same as the full version not that Student and Teacher Edition crap. *cough*

Can you play halo 2 and shadowrun on xp then?
Don't get this confused. Games that are put out as VISTA ONLY will still not work on XP. This article simply states that the GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE isn't restricted to Vista only.

Xbox players will have some sort of aim-assist. Most console shooters do. Most PC shooters don't.
