EU/UK Xbox 360 Pricedrop Coming August 24th?
Posted by XanTium | August 17 23:40 EST | News Category: Xbox360

An x-scene reader sent us a flyer from french retailer Carrefour indicating an Xbox360 pricedrop for Europe on August 24th. The ad shows the Xbox 360 Premium for 349eur (current official price is 399eur) and the core for 279eur (current official price is 299eur). You'll notice the retailer will even take an additional 25eur off the premium price with their 'fidelity program', probably to help clear their stock of non-HDMI Premium consoles.
The Xbox360 Elite is launching in Europe on that very same date ... while MS didn't announce an official price yet and retailers have been taking pre-orders for 500eur/330gbp, it's likely the official Elite price will also 'number-match' the new USD price ... meaning 450eur.

About UK (GBP) pricing ... the guys over at disposablemedia.blogspot.com got this info from their 'Microsoft insider' (who also confirms the August 24 date):
* Core 179.99 GBP
* Premium 249.99 GBP
* Elite 299.99 GBP

Smart move, MS are strong in the UK market, more so than PS3 right now. This will help consolidate their dominance in this territory.

This is the time to reduce the price, when the PS3 is starting to experience an upsurge in sales. No point doing it when the PS3 is better established, kick your rival when they are down is the metaphor that comes to mind.

Good news ... But there has already been a few stores over here selling at that price for the last few months especially when PS3 released. So were talking £20 off a core mm would like to have seen it drop by £50 to draw in the not so serious gamers.

Lame price cuts seems UK/Euro is always going to continue to be shafted on price.

Most places are already selling them for that price and with premium bundled with few games.

Core should of been dropped to at least £160 or they could at least throw in a free memory card.

Well I'm sure that will mean lower price on the bundles too.

what a crap price drop.. maybe £150 core £200 prem would have boosted sales here! but £20 realy aint going to shift the un-shifted! just wait till Xmass when the Ellite will have 2 games plus plus plus for about £300.

but then who wants to pay £70 more for a 120GB HD (as we dont need it till the TV & Movies come out) and a black case that looks kinda rubbish IMO to other case mods thats out there
i mean the HDMI slot is going to be put in the normal xbox360 prem so.. its a case of break yout box, send it back, get a HDMI box back smile.gif is it all worth this? cool.gif

No need for a huge drop in microsoft's opinion, there be Halo 3 abound!

Core at £150 would have been nice, but i like the drop, something is better then nothing

Good news but they should include a free memory card with the core system to entice less hard-core games. I hope the UK elites come with the new heatsink - I am not sure that even Halo 3 would entice me to get a fifth replacement (OK maybe it would) biggrin.gif

Same old gripes from people.
Any price drop should be welcomed. It is in actual fact cheaper than if they left it so I don't understand why this sort of news is always received so negatively.
IMO the 360 is cheap enough anyway. A lot of console for not much money.
Problem is the GP have been educated into thinking Electronic equipment should be available for next to nothing. I get customers moaning at me when DVD players costing £17.99 go faulty. I mean Come On!
I would rather pay for a quality product that can be kept for years and repaired economically.
MS should introduce approved agent repairs where people can walk in locally and get a console repaired with in stock parts either in warranty or out. The price drops are compensation for the public knowledge of problems with the 360 and an attempt to win back favour.

Hopefully I'll be buying a Premium next week at the reduced price, am I likely to find any HDMI-enabled 360's in the UK yet? Or is there anything on the box I should look for to make sure I get as late a model as I can get?

People are moaning about price drop because come on it's poor really many places have been selling it for them prices already and still the other countries get far better deal.

I totally agree with you for the price you do get a lot but people don't expect it to fail after a year for any reason which is how at a guess people see it as with 360 had 3 myself fail which was non 3RROD which ends up not being cheap.

Regarding the £17.99 dvd failing why can't people moan they have used there money to buy it and to some people that is lot of money which by the way your saying it is nothing to you so then will you give them there £17.99 back or buy them a better player no you wont.

I like your repair agents idea very good one but I suppose on MS point they will have to spend more money for that which could cost them a lot more then people just sending it back to them. Maybe you should offer it to them yourself see what they say.
