Microsoft's Adults Only Game Bundle for Japan
Posted by XanTium | September 4 23:38 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From kotaku.com:
[QUOTE]
While the Western world shirks from Adults Only console games, Xbox Japan embraces them. What the hell, it has nothing to lose! As part of its low cost "Platinum Collection," Microsoft will be realizing a two pack of Gears of War and Dead Rising. Both games were slapped with the dreaded CERO Z rating, which is equal to ESRB's games-as-porn AO rating.

Well, clearly it's NOT the equivalent. Japan doesn't have a death sentence rating.

Though Dead Rising is a porn game. wink.gif

Uh, why?

What's wrong with your "Western" copies of Gears of War and Dead Rising?

Why did Gears and Dead Rising even get that rating? I mean, yeah I guess they are somewhat violent, but there are a lot more graphic games out there (Soldier of Fortune anyone?) Maybe that got a AO in Japan if it released there, but I haven't ever seen anything about it. Oh well, doesn't bother me any, I don't live there.

Why not? They're not exactly kids games, and if there is a rating targeted at adults, let it be used!
Of course, the way ratings are used all around the world warrants them very little credibility, but if games and movies were rated in an objective way many more would get AO ratings.

Japanese don't embrace violence like Americans. Just like we don't embrace sensuality like many of them.

From what I see, we care less about exposing graphical content to minors than we do the naked human body. For them and many other countries it is the opposite. Personally, I think watching people getting killed and exploding is worse and kind of agree with them.

Nice - at least the Japanese have their priorities straight - we Americans are ok to let our young bathe in blood, but heaven forbid that they see a nipple or the naked body... sex is a NORMAL part of life - gratuitious violence is NOT - so which one should be more taboo? Millions of people have sex with eachother everyday - millions of people do not chainsaw eachother in a bloodbath...

WTF? Great Christian values ruling society right there...

I disagree with your statement.

6th says "Don't Kill" = A real life thing
10th says "Don't Lust" = A thought

In a movie or a game, you do not kill in real life, but you can potentially lust for a digital beauty (based on a real person). = Christian values dictate that play killing is ok, but play sex is not.
