Schtrom's DosFlash v1.1 Beta
Posted by XanTium | September 5 00:49 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Schtrom released a new version of DosFlash - at tool that can be used to read/write/erase the flash chips of most CD/DVD-ROM drives that have a mediatek chipset installed (including the TS-H943A MS25 and MS28 ; SH-D162C ; SH-D163A ; BenQ VAD6038). DosFlash is for DOS flashing, DosFlash32 for Windows flashing.

What's new/fixed (since v1.0 beta):
* DosFlash.typ modified for better BenQ support
* DosFlash16 Flash Manufacturer and Device ID screen output restructured
* flash chips are first erased before writing starts
* DosFlash32 no reenable of DVD-ROMs in device manager after flashing, this means you can't see drive and maybe have to activate it manual again in device manager, this could give better compatibility and hopefully no more blue screens

Sounds like a bad thing to me, sounds riskier for some reason. Im glad i don't have a benQ, i was lucky enough to get a 78FK back when i returned my 360 again.

Well, i might be wrong, but i think this is a good thing (at least for compatibility that is..)
I think it is better (or more compatible maybe) if the chips get erased first, and the firmware just uploads rather then overwriting a "full" chip.. (But then again: i might be wrong!! smile.gif )

edit.: this might get the BenQ drives closer to a hack (its just a guess.. smile.gif )

BenQ drives have been flashable for a while now. This is just a new version of the flasher you'll need after soldering it, there is still no software-only solution for BenQ.
Let alone a hacked firmware.

What are the requirements for flashing a MS28 drive with the W32 edition of this tool?
VT6421A SATA PCI card?

Anything ellse?

Then i knew it wrong, thanks for the correction, i hope sooner or later there will be an only software solution for this..

I know it's benn asked a lot, and i might get flamed about this , but what is the POSSIBILITY (so the chance to success) of finding this solution? (OR a modified firmware for this "beauty") until december 2007?

Thank you!

---EDIT: Sry for the little off-topic

Your best bet would be to dump the key from your Ben Q drive. And then swap it out with a sammy or hitachi until the FW arrives.

yeah this is a solution... but again, i still havent reached the cash for the box, and i have a baad feeling that this will be in it.. :/ And getting a sammy or hitachi would cost a bit too much i think:( and a laptop drive is surely wont do?biggrin.gif

anyway. i'm gonna have to wait until the fw for it, i'm a student, just cant afford any + cost..

Hi,

I'm still having a problem reading the firmware from my BenQ drive dated 07/2007.

Does anyone know if there is a difference with this version?

My Current setup:
BenQ VAD6038
HW Ver: J-DA1A4
FW Ver: 64930C

It appears that it "fails" to identify the firmware?

Works on previously modded ms28's only since it requires the Enable 0800 disc. For new ms28's you will need to use iPrep (mtkflash).
